Did anybody ever do a food plot for moose or know somebody that did? If yes what did they plant, and did it work? Or can anyone tell me any reasons why it would not work?

Moose browse mostly and young willows and poplar are the preferred food around here. My place has about 80 acres of willow that supports a lot of moose in the winter. I "refresh" (doze and burn so they sucker and new growth comes from the roots) every now and again. Once the willow gets too big the small edible branches are out of reach for the moose. I don't see them eating the clover or alfalfa like the deer and elk. Just my experience.

Moose are not a grazing animal. Mostly trees and swap foods. I found this below.

In general, preferred trees and shrubs include willows (Salix), trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides), redosier dogwood (Comus stolonifera), red maple (Acer rubrum), striped maple (Acer pennsylvanicum), white birch (Betula papyrifera), beaked hazelnut (Corylus rostrata), pin cherry (Prunus pennsylvanica) and, primarily in winter, balsam fir (Abies balsamea). Aquatic plants, particularly water shield (Brasenia schreberi), yellow pond lily (Nuphar sp.) and pondweed (Potamogeton sp.),constitute a preferred and important part of the moose's diet in summer.

No real need to.

Head to the bush and find a swamp with moose tracks around it.

That said, most of the moose I have shot have been in cut blocks. I think I have only ever saw a moose in water once. It was a cow who was eating the plants off the bottom of the pond. Some funny to watch.

Moose primarily are browsers, and eat a surprising variety of shrubs and young trees, plus the leaves of certain shrubs. But they also eat some pond growing plants, and will actually "dive" to reach them. I have watched this and it is a great thing to see! However, Moose graze on certain forbs and ground growing plants as well, and I have seen them feeding in alfalfa fields from time to time, and in their wintering areas, they will eat the bark of the aspen, the willow and the needles of spruce trees, so I think that they may be more diverse in their feeding than it would seem at first. I am not certain that a "food plot" of any specific sort would attract them, though. They will come to a salt block, but best check legality before using that tactic. Regards, Eagleye.
