Hey everyone I was out working on my food plot today and thought I would post up to see how many other GCN's are doing the same?......

I get my food plot seed from backyard wildlife "rackstacker.ca" Steve is a great guy and knows his stuff for sure. His seed is more expensive then the run of the mill stuff you get from the co-op but you get what you pay for 100%. I picked up 25lbs of his super-buck blend that has 5 kinds of Clovers, Birds foot Trefoil, Chicory, Brassicas and Winter Turnips.

I had a friend come in with a tractor and disc up 2.5acres of old hay field the field is surrounded on the east and west by pine plantation "bedding areas". On the north end there is hard woods and a funnel then to the south is a fence line and then corn. So the field is secluded to give those big bucks a good sense of security;).

So today I made up a drag using some chain link fence and a couple cedar fence posts hooked it up to my Polaris 6x6 and went to work leveling out the mounds left from the discs. About 2 hrs later that was all done and looks pretty good I might add. I went to hook up my seed spreader to the quad and noticed it was broken and TSC was closed so that was the end of that.

Making the best of my situation I got out the chain saw and started clearing the south fence line. The reason I'm doing this is I'm building a new stand about 200yds south of the food plot in some huge maples that give me a great view of the whole plot during rifle season and I can sneak in and out undetected.

My plans for tomorrow are to replace my seed spreader then fertilize and seed the field I will also continue clearing the fence line.

I am going to take some photos and put them up tomorrow night so stay tuned.

Oh and rackstacker is doing a plot demo on the 29th in Ashton and june 13th in Roslin Ontario.

Sorry for the delay here are the pics.

Today I spread 100lbs of lime, 150lbs of fertilizer and 25lbs of Super-buck plot seed and dragged the field one last time to cover the seed.

now we wait and pray for rain! here's my rain dance :dancingbanana:

Looking real good, having recently worked up 1/2 an acre I can really appreciate how much work goes into a good plot. It should look real nice in about 3-4 weeks. :)

Thanks it was a lot of work I made a 12ft wide drag instead of the 4ft one I used at first that made it a lot quicker to drag the field the 2nd time.

I hope it looks good its calling for rain on Thursday and again on Saturday and Sunday so that should kick start the process. I'll keep updating this thread thought the season I just got a new 8mp Trophy cam too so there should be some nice picks of wildlife too!...

Looks really good...hope all of the hard work and expense pays off for you. :)

Want to tell how much your plot is being grazed? Fence off a 3'x3' patch with page wire/ corn-crib wire, and compare it to the rest of the plot.

Question...did you consider using Round-Up before you started?

Thank you very much and I hope so too :D

That's a good idea!

Yes actually because this was already planned with my dad before he passed away we had the field sprayed in the fall which really did the trick. The field was completely dead and the roots broke down over the winter making it very easy to turn the field hadn't been worked in over 20yrs.

Post some photos after your big 'take' this fall! Best of luck to you.

Will do! I'm Trying to draw this bad boy out...........

Update time after literally 3 weeks with no rain after I seeded the field I was thinking the worst. We have finally got a decent amount of rain over the last 3 weeks and everything is coming up nicely check it out.

Thanks!!!

I didn't have the camera ready in time I busted over 8-10 deer in the field when I was walking in.....I should have snapped a few pics of the corn fields surrounding the food plot too.....its over waist high already.

I will have to find another name other than "food plot" for my two little spots in the woods which are the size of a postage stamp compared to your food plot. Mine is a "snack" sized plot for a couple deer, your food plot is a 7 course meal for all the deer in the area.

heavybullet, that deer in the last pic looks a little skinny. did you guys have a hard winter this year? im sure you will have no problem getting a deer out of your plot this season.

This question was brought up in conversation with another CGN member, and I believe he is right in saying she had just given birth. I have a few pic's of which I believe is the same deer, and in the earlier pic's she does not have that empty void. I would bet that the next time I get pic's from my cam, there will be some fawns with her.
