Inspired by BIGRED . The question is , can you plant a food plot on crown land ? I know of some very thick brush country with a good whitetail population but there isn't a shooting lane to be found , except for an opening of about 50 yards by about 100 yards by a creek where they cross . By the time you spot one , there's no time for a shot because they cross the creek and the open space on the run . The open space is a bit of grass and weeds with nice loamly black soil under it . No one wood even hear me down there with a cultivator but i don't know if it's legal to plant on crown land . Don't know if the opening is actually big enough for a food plot . I'm thinking a food plot , if the area is big enough , may keep the whitetails from blasting through at 40 miles per hour . O.K. , here's another question , this area is so far off the beaten path that i can't figure out why the deer seem so spooky . In the soft soil along the creek i've never found a predator track . I've seen a few beautiful bucks in the area but they are always on the run . It's like the open area itself spooks them .

Of course! Like who is going to care if you hoe up some dirt out in the bush and plant some alfalfa? Only other hunters and they will appreciate it (if they find it).

If I were you, I would just check with your local MNR. Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was legal, low key, & you kept to native species of plants.
The reason the deer may cross the area quickly is because they feel exsposed & vunerable out in the open. IMHO I don't think plantings would make much difference in their behavior, but I could be wrong.
