For .303 British reloaders.

When I was reloading for .303 I was partial to the Speer Hot-Cor bullet. But Hornady also makes the .312 Interlock in a 150 grain pointed soft point and a 174 grain round nose and I'd probably go with the 150 grain psp interlock if I were going to reload .303 British for hunting now.

X2 , I can't remember how many jugheads the old man took with the old 215 Kling Kores , they worked great on moose and other large things . I use the Sierra 180's with a healthy dose of 4350 behind them . They shoot great and perform very well on game .
 
I am slowly using up my stash of 215 KKSP's still have a few 215 Woodleighs. This past weekend I found a stash of 150 grain Sabre Tip CIL component bullets. Life is good. Overall Hornady's 174 round nose is a very good bullet.

I load the Hornady 174 round nose, I dont hunt with it anymore, I prefer my Remington pump in 35 Whelen. The one moose I did shoot with it was about 40 yards, I fired two shots broadside. One through both lungs and the other through the heart. One pass through and one lodged under the skin on the far side. The moose took about 3 steps and laid down.


The 174 also duplicates the Mk VII load that the Allies used in WWII, So the sights on the No. 4 and No. 5 rifles are probably regulated for that. The original No.1, MkIII load was a 215 gr bullet. I'm not sure when or if they were sighted in for the MkVII loading.
 
Speer 180 grain and 150 grain spitzers work well in all of mine (.311" diameter.) Hornady round nose 174 grain Interlock work a bit better (.312"). Speer 180 grain round nose Hot-Cor were terrible in both the rifles I had at the time I made that batch (.311"). (Didn't stop me taking some of their old Grand Slam 200grn (also .311") in a trade but haven't tried them yet.) Don't invest in large stock of anything until you've tried it, an individual rifle can be particular.

Remington ammunition loaded with their Core-Lokt 180 grain round nose (.311") works well for me also, I'd reload those if I found any.
 
When I hunted with my sportered P14, I loaded it using Hornady 150's and employed 308 Win load data - 47.0 grs of Varget.

Previous to that, in a sportered No 4, it was the same bullet, but 43.0 grs of Varget in deference to the weaker than No 4 action.

When the bore size exceeds about 0.312" I mostly use cast, but have sized down 32 Cal (0.321") bullets, even 8mm (0.323") with some success.
 
I have a couple of 303 rifles, a P14 and a 1910 Ross, plus a 303 Epps.

My favorite bullet so far is the 180 Sierra Pro-Hunter, but there are several good choices.
174 Hornady, 180 Speer, 180 Cor-Lokt, [All RN bullets]
I have a quantity of Steve Redgwell's custom bullets in .313" diameter. 200 grains, and just an excellent bullet in the 303's

I also have a fair quantity of the 203 grain Soft Point pulldowns from 7.62-54R ammo that I want to try.

My pet load with the 180 in the standard case is 44/45 grains of IMR 4320.
Reloder 15 and Norma 202 also work very well, as does Vihtavuori N540.

Yep , I've used 303's for about 40 years with 180's of all makes . I honestly don't remember how many animals , from deer and bear to moose , that I've taken with them , but quite a few . The 303/180 gr combo has worked for me every time . As long as you do your part with proper bullet placement , it'll work for you too . Good luck and keep us posted .
 
By the way , google the new world record Alaskan Moose . Buddy dropped it with a 303 and factory Winchester 180 gr PSP's ( which my PH sporter loves , great factory ammo ) go figure .
 
I love the big 215 C.I.L. Bullets and have a mess of them but have killed dozens of deer with 174, snd 180 grain bullets from Seirra, Speer, and C.I.L.
My latest .303 is the last hunting rifle I am going to have custom built , there is no need for me to get anything else .
Every deer since I got Leeper to build it has been killed with one bullet .
i generally use about 40 grains or so of Varget, but have also used 4895 and H335.
