For anyone missing hunting due to injury or sickness...

All good grown man advice here. There is much to be said for old guys getting together once in a while and sharing their stories. People are the same everywhere, and sometimes someone is just a little further down the path than the next guy.

Wishing you all a speedy recovery! We may be down, but not out of the game. Thanks to a bad concussion, the only shooting I'm doing is punching paper at the range (when I find a ride... Dr said no driving). Getting from vehicle to bench is about as far as I can manage before resting from exhaustion. No hunting for me this year... but next season I'll be ready & able.

Sorry your missing hunting season. Maybe a few of your hunting buddies will bring you some nice Deer steaks and beer of course.
A few years back I missed a complete hunting season because of knee surgery. I couldn't walk for 6 weeks than had to do physiotherapy.
Get well soon.

I can empathise with all the previous posts..just broke my ankle and tibia last weekend. Will need surgery within next 10 days then 8-10 weeks of no weight. Then who knows? Was hoping to participate in next week's muzzleloader season. With luck I will get to the Homestead after a 4 month pause. Stay safe everyone.

Some unsolicited advice here to those facing joint replacements. Go to your physio therapist before your surgery and get a bunch of exercises and do them religiously. Going into the surgery in the best shape you can be in is important for recovery. Again go see your physio ASAP after your surgery regardless of what your surgeon says. Some say wait 6 weeks or whatever. Talk to your Physio and ask them what is best course of action for you. Have had 2 ACL and four joint replacements so know whereof I speak. Destroyed my stomach taking Ibuprofen so use it lightly as possible if necessary. Experiment with cannibas oil, as Spank mentions, it can be very effective for some people. Using it properly results in no impairment so would allow you to work.

I was hunting goat and fell down a cliff this year. My knee is in bad shape and has prevented me from hunting. Very unfortunate because this may be the first time in 10 years I don't bag an animal.

This deer season was pretty much wrote off. First it rained hard for 3 Saturdays in a row, then I picked up a stomach virus that had me bedridden for a week and I lost another 2 Saturdays. Truthfully, I didn't have the itch to get out as bad this year as others, a shame really as we had good tracking snow for a couple weeks and that is normally rare.

This thread hurts to read as im assuming most are older than me and ive beaten my body bad over the years. Ive always bounced back quick. Broken bones healed fast but 2 years ago i tore my achilles tendon off the bone and tore a tendon in my ankle while bear hunting. I hobbled on it for 5 days as i refused to call it quits on a backpack style hunt. Took 2 weeks once home before i went in to the hospital. My union rep at work basically said she was calling an ambulance if i didnt leave work to go in to the er
I had been running and a branch broke and my heel went down between two rocks and my toes touched my chin. I am not a flexible person lol. Anyway it was 2 years in august. However the 5 months off my feet in an air cast were the worst. Ive never been the sit at home type and it destroyed me. I gained 25lbs and lost alot of muscle strength. I can jog now and kinda run short distances. I used to be a long distance runner. Those days are over but now being 35 and a father of a 10month old im feeling everything. I can predict the weather by what joints dont move or what bones hurt. I sit down to tie my shoes now. Its all catching up to me now. I worry i wont be able to do things with my daughter when shes older. Im fortunate i can still get out and hunt this year around home. I gave up my bear hunt this fall to stay home with my lil girl.
The days of jumping off roofs and out of trucks is over. I slowly climb down now lol. Im trying to do some light workouts to help maintain what i have left. My left shoulder slows me down but the specialists say im to young for that surgery.
All in all i hope everyone improves and can continue to hunt
