For Glock gen4 haters out there.

Somewhat ironic considering that some of the most careful documenting of the issues with the Gen 4 were ones done by Todd...on that gun.

Here is a direct quote from him, vis-a-vis that very test:

Anyone who denies there is a noticeably greater percentage of gen4 9mm Glocks suffering problems than previous generations is living in either a cave or denial.

So are they reliable? Depends what you compare them to.

The gun fired over 70,000 rounds in 16 months and was only cleaned nine times! Probably could have kept it going longer if it was clean.

I've followed the whole thing; week 0 was total fail: http://pistol-training.com/archives/4553

The pistol had some early issues as many Gen4 had, but they replaced the faulty parts and it kept going, and going and going...

*** I dislike the fact that they used some aftermarket parts at some point (Notably the LCI extractor), I would've prefered they keep it stock; it would've been a more representative long term test that way...

Glock may have rushed to get the early pistols out the door without doing extensive QA/QC. Otherwise they'd have picked up on the minor bugs and their reputation would still be impecable.

That said, I love my Gen 4. I think it's still got the original lousy springs in it also.

It goes beyond Gen 3 vs. Gen 4. There are also reports of problems with recent production (late 2010 and up) Gen 3 9mm Glocks as well. At this time, it appears that buying an older Gen 3 will give you the lowest probability of getting a lemon.

While I wouldn't suggest that 1911s are the best choice for everyone, I find it amusing that the current test guns seem to be getting off to a better start than the Glock did.

Glock pistols are constantly evolving, as improvements are made, new parts are manufactured. In the case of my Gen 2 G19 there was a 6 part up grade, did it need it?
probably not but they offered the part(s) upgrade for free.

If parts are improved or need replacement, Glock will offer them for free, however you need to have them installed by a Glock Armour. Not a big deal.
Glock supports there product 100%.
