I have a Tikka T3 stainless 270 Wsm but Im concerned that ot might be a bit light for moose. Im considering a CZ 550 Safari Classics in 300 win mag or 300 WSM. I really like the smooth bolt action of the Tikka. Tried a Bowning but didnt find it as smooth.
I would love to get my hands on a Tikka 595 - almost had one but it got away (
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

270 WSM is fine for moose. Save your money. If you just want a new gun, I would go with the CZ and go bigger than a .300 mag otherwise you aren't gaining enough over a .270 WSM to make it worthwhile.

one is with a detachable mag not the other one.

one is CRF the other is PF.

one is light not the other ...

both are reliable.

the LOP of the CZ is longer so which one fits you better ?

you ll need a limbsaver recoil pad on the T3 ...

i like both but mainly the Tikka is coming in LH config not the CZ except a few in 375 h&h ...

I have a tikka t3 lite stainless synthetic in 300 win mag. It has some pretty wicked kick. The limbsaver helps. With cheap PMC ammo it shoots clover leafs. I bet the cz would have significantly less recoil, but it wouldn't carry near as well. That would be the trade off I'm guessing.

Just my .02

I once4 commented to a fellow hunter that i thought his 270 with 130 gr was kinda light for moose. I was not thinking clearly. My grandfather shot 50+ with a 30-30.

Anyway, a few days later I was helping him drag his moose out. he pointed out to me that the lungs were blown out and the moose was very dead....

I have since watched another guy use 250Savage on moose. he is a deadly shot.

Thanks everyone for your feedback .... so the consensus is a 300 wsm doesnt give me much over the 270 wsm, and a 270 wsm is plenty of killing power for moose. Secondly if Im going to go with a higher caliber/heavy grain bullet I need to get a rifle that has more weight then the T3 in order to reduce recoil ..... maybe I will just have to save my pennies for a Weatherby Mark V ... but then Im not certain I would want to take something that nice hunting. However thank you to everyone to took time to give me some feedback

Stick with the 270. If you want bigger (or a new rifle anyways), take a big step to say 338, 9.3 or 375. And then, a little extra weight wont bother you as much as you have a larger caliber to deal with.

Your 270 is too similar to the 300 to really worry about. If it shoots well and fits you - go with it. The moose wont know the difference.

Thanks giving day my boy killed a medium sized bull moose from 200 yards with 4 shots from his 06. None were pass thrus. Heart was blown up, that bullet lodged in the far side hide, 3 others stopped in the body after breaking bones and guts. 180gr Hdy interlocks 57grIMR 4895. About the limit for this round I think. The moose never ran off, we were lucky as the tangle is bad south of Grande Prairie. I know you can kill Bison with a .22, from what we saw this year, hunt moose and elk with the biggest magnum you can comfortably handle.

I used to have a 6.5 pound 300 short and it kicked like hell. I killed quite a few animals with it, but sold it and bought a Sako AV in 300 winny which I much preferred.

I would buy the CZ in 300 win and then sell your 270 wsm.

If you are still looking, I'd say take a look at the new model 70's. I recently bought one in .338 win mag. The gun is a good weight just over 9lbs with scope. The recoil, while not mild, is from my perspective quite manageable. I've been exremely impressed it so far.
