For Skeet…. A300 vs 391 vs A400 ? Price vs Performance ?

Can anyone recommend witch type of shotgun to buy for skeet ? They are all great guns but I would like some convincing LOL...

Thanks guys...

Well - All of the above are self regulating gas guns, capable of taking a variety of shells, and screw in chokes - in short a do-all gun, and you pay a premium for that. If you are looking for a true skeet only gun, then you can get an older fixed choke model that takes 2 3/4 inch shells like the older 300 series. Perhaps they made these in specific skeet configuration...

Whichever of the bunch fits you best, is the right answer. All of the later models were designed improvements to be more flexible than the predecessor in terms of heavier and light loads, adjustability in the stock, longer shell capacity, in the case of the A-400 alloy receivers. An A-300 or A-391 that fits and has screw-in or fixed skeet chokes would certainly fit the bill.

I've seen a number of 12 gauge only shooters use A400s which they seem to love, personally I love my 391 in the off season when I want a break from the over under.

What's your budget?

I own and shoot a few different 391s both field and comp and both are great guns

Beretta is a great gun but so is Benelli and others

A391 if you can find one in good condition I have used my for skeet and sporting clay for years and it works great low recoil with the 1 1/8 oz shells. If you only shoot
skeet get the 28in barrel. I have never shot the a400 but the a400 extreme would be my all round choice (28 in) if you can afford it .

The 391 is out of production so it's used guns only unless you find an NIB Sporting model. The 300 isn't that common in Canada. There are more A400 around. The A400 Xcel Sporting is the gun I'd have if I didn't already have a couple of 391s.

I had an A400 sporting and it was very reliable and very comfortable, I would highly recommend. They even have a parallel target version that might be even better for skeet.

I have had the 391 and the 400, the 400 is a lot faster and more reliable than the 391, last but not least the 400 is a lot cleaner thanks to the rotating bolt

I have an A400 Xplor Action that I use for skeet it has about 1400 rounds through it (haven't checked the gun pod in a few weeks to get an exact count) It will cycle everything I have put through it, from 3/4 oz reloads to Challenger Handicap and just about everything in between. The 3/4 oz loads only get thrown about 5 ft, while with some factory loads I can pick up my hulls on the next station. I usually shoot an O/U because I hate picking up hulls, but the A400 is getting a lot more use these days. I would also love to have one of these in both a 20 and 28 ga.

I happened to find a 391 URIKA II sporting unfired in a local gunshop in town and bought it. Could not resist.
