For those Crow hunters among us.

Sounds like a good time! I've been looking for a decent electronic call but no luck.. I have and old cassette tape with about 40 minutes worth of "Distress Crow's", will that suffice or do I really need a call?

Thanks!

That cassette tape version connected to a big battery and outdoor speaker was state of the art when I went after them. Late '80's and early '90's. The crows won't know the difference. They weren't cheap back then, either.

Then I'm sure it will work now! Thanks for that, saved me from buying a electronic call worth 200$. I picked up a 15$ call at Canadian Tire too so I'm hoping that helps my odds, sure will take some practice to master.

How do you set up the Owl decoy?

I don't know what others do, but I used to set up where a tree line joins the edge of a field they flew across twice daily. The owl had a hole in the base and I'd stick the owl over the end of a branch the points upright. Or you can sharpen the end of a long stake/broom handle. The point in the ground, the owl on the other end.
Crows will see it from a distance with their eyes. But I think it helped to keep them around a little longer and keep their focus off of you while shooting. Like someone else mentioned it's like a scene from the Birds. They may be flying in a steady stream some distance away. You turn on the caller, and suddenly that stream floods your way and circles directly overhead. And they sound mad. You'll take a bunch before the rest clue in and leave. Get down, wait a bit, and finally others may come over to swarm you all over again.
