for those in the .260 know

I don't load 6.5X55SM right to the rifling, I put it .035 to .040" away from the rifling, this will alow me to have slightly more powder, and less pressure.

Making the barrel shorter won't make it less accurate - it will make the bullet slower.

I use the Ackley version of the 260Rem and get the 142s out at 2950 fps. At long range this translates to less wind drift. My reamer has a deep throat so the long bullet just sits in the neck - not in the boiler room.

I use 4831SC, H1000 and RL22.

I neck size the cases using a standard Lee 260Rem collet die.

This rifle used to be a 6.5x55. It worked very well, but I burned the barrel out. The 260Rem Ackley with Winchester 308 cases is the same water capacity as 6.5x55 Lapua cases it replaces. I changed calibers because I had to buy a new reamer anyway, so opted for one to take advanatge of all the 308 brass I have. i wanted to standardise my rifle with a similar one for wife and daughter.

Our barrels are 30" to 32", so velocities will be higher than shorter tubes.

with 140grain Amax, 47.5grain H4831 from a 26" barrel, I got 2835fps at Genesee.
with this rifles.
1-8twist 26" barrel muzzle diameter .945"
