The 100% American-made Model 870 has evolved to keep pace with the rapidly changing needs of law enforcement.

The Model 870 leads the field in safety and performance features. A uniquely designed action with balanced sear - plus inertia firing pin - prevents discharge unless the action is completely closed and the trigger is squeezed and released after each slot. The large, side-ejection port stays unobstructed when shooting over walls, car hoods, and other barriers; the blaze orange magazine follower also permits quick, safe inspection of the chamber and magazine. This positive, cross-bolt safety is conveniently located near the trigger for fast operation, even while wearing gloves.

Very nice shotgun. I have a Rem 870 Tactical express with the pic rail, ghost ring sights, breacher choke, 18.5in barrel, magazine tube extension and synthetic furniture. Absolutely love it - so much fun.

One thing I recommend that was passed on to me by an RCMP armourer is to polish the chamber with 00 steel wool wrapped around a spindle and chucked into a drill. Run the steel wool around the chamber with an in and out motion until you feel the barrel get hot in your hand (obviously stop before it gets hot enough to be uncomfortable). Apparently most of these shotguns made after a certain date have rough chambers that benefit from this treatment. I can tell you I noticed the difference based purely on a visual inspection.

After the chamber polish, never had any problems with it at all.

The only improvement I'd like to see on my 870 would be a tang safety rather than the cross bolt, but that's a very, very minor gripe.
