Where are you finding jaketed bullets in
185gr. for your loads ?
Thats the grain weight I have always used
so I would like to stay with it, either
hollow point or FMJ it doesn't matter.

I live in Calgary so somewhere close would
be prefered but if I have to pay shipping
I will. Can't find anything around, any
suggesttions ?
Thx.

They aren't jacketed, but Wholesale has lots of 200 grain SWC and RNFP Cactus Plains cast bullets. I use the RNFP bullets and I have no leading issues. Cost is around $90/1000.

There are also 250 grain RNFPs, which I haven't tried. There isn't much data out there for this bullet weight in .45 ACP.

Aim Projectiles also offers a 230 grain plated bullet for around $130/1000. The distributor in Western Canada is in Calgary. E-mail fkoch@shaw.ca for details.

Call WC ammo sales (link is on the Canadian BDX Website) and place your order for 230 grain FMJ's, Canadian made with a maple leaf on the nose.

funny how the guy asks specifically for 185 gr. bullets and gets recommendations for everything but...

I would suggest Higginson Powders if it wasn't so far from Calgary. They carry Hornady XTPs in that weight as well as bulk SWCs for 10 bucks less per 100.

you might SERIOUSLY RE-THINK the 185s anyway,as i've had nothing but misfeeds, poor cycling, and a bunch of other stuff in my colt mk4/series 70- imo, the 200 grain from PLAINS is just about the best bullet out there as far as cast lead is concerned- he casts these pretty hard too- if you look around there's a whole bunch of guys using the 200, and it was one of mike shaw's favs- i run just about what he did - 6 grains of 231 , 5.8 for practise- i don't pretend to know what we're going to do for slugs now that russels has folded-

Have people just given up reading or what? WW stated in the OP he's always used 185s and would like to stick with'em, would he say that if they didn't perform well in his gun?

Have you ordered from them before, I
would imagine shipping is quite expensive
since lead isn't the lightest material around...
Well, I live an hour away from them so I always drive over, but I imagine it would only be worthwhile if you placed a relatively large order. I placed a mega-order of bullets from the Bullet Barn in BC last year, I felt I made a good deal even with the shipping.

I would like to point out that I know of no source of jacketed 185 grain bullets in Calgary area, so I provided an alternative. Combat Master/BDX lists a Montana gold 185 grain JHP on their website, but I don't think they have any.

Yes, the Montana Gold's from BDX (when you could get them)
are all I have ever used. I loaded thousands of those 185 JHP
and they were smooth as silk out of my P220. Really a great product.

Thx. Cerdan, I will also give the Bullet Barn a jingle and see what
is available since they are quite a bit closer than Higginson's.

This thread epitomizes CGN. Ask a simple question and have 10 different answers, only one of which is relevant...

Since you are in Calgary, Combat Masters would be a good place to look if you have enormous amounts of time to waste. Then again you could get lucky and be taken care of in a polite and professional manner, but I wouldn't hold my breathe. You could also try Russel's, Bass Pro, Wholesale etc. if you haven't already.

Speaking of relevance...
Let's examine your post:

Recommending Combat masters -where the OP sourced MGs in the first place, and are no longer available. They Only have 230 gr. round nose.
Suggesting Russell's, Bass Pro & Wholesale - Obvious choices that the OP has exhausted as options.
So instead of you and others jumping down guys throats for suggesting alternatives, why not come up with something constructive? :jerkit:

i can save you some time - i was in russels yesterday - and they've got absoltely NOTHING save a few buckets of plains cast on the floor-the vultres have picked that place clean- only the real oddball stuff left- and there's a non-existant break on the pricing- seems they'd rather move it than sell it

the reason why i suggested the new 230 grain bullets from BDX is because Montana Gold is not only NOT shipping to Canada, they have cut off all of their dealers. presently they are only selling full retail UPS delivery US only. Right now there are are only two companies in Canada making bullets, AIM and BDX. neither one is making a 185 45 caliber bullet. about the only bullets that i know of today that are being imported into Canada are the Frontiers by Marstar. A quick check of their website shows no listing for a 185 45. I know Higginsons shows bullets but i do believe he has not been able to get any for awhile now, however i could stand to be corrected on that if someone has recently (like in the last 30 days) gotten bullets from him.last time i talked to him he was having the same problems as everyone else no product to ship north.

So, unless somebody has a stock of 185 45's that they want to get rid of, the OP is either going to have to keep looking, look at changing to a 230 grain bullet or start making his own. Those of us offering him other sizes are just trying to help him out.

Have you tried Proline Shooters ? I believe they are local to you...

You could go and buy a new Hornady Lock'n'Load press.

With the "free bullet offer" you would get 1000 free bullets (just have to pay shipping)

185 gr .45 HP and 185gr SWC are one of the "free bullet" options when you send in for your "free bullets" after purchase......

Just to add to the other "usless' info that is being posted......... :D

Here's a link....... http://www.hornady.com/media/get-loaded-stay-loaded.pdf

Cheers!
