For those who love their .270's, it's time to up your game!

Oh yeah. Load that #### up in Europe at 80k psi, I'm sure it'll do just fine in the deserts of the middle east...

It's a novel idea, and I could see it having applications sometime in the future, but those cases must be expensive (with their 3 piece design and steel case head) and besides, my 270win already does 3000fps with far less pressure. Pass.

3 piece case
Expensive case
277
80000psi (whats a 700 rated for)
Case separation at the joint from work hardening
Special dies
Barrel wear throat erosion

Oh ya itll catch on lol

Its only hope is a military contract for belt fed guns fed on tax payers dime
Im all for extreme performance but this is a non starter in the civi market

What would it do for me that the 284 Winchester wouldn't beside lighted my wallet and ugly up my gun?

A .270 WSM matches or exceeds that spec, at 20kpsi less pressure.

I wonder what a 270 WSM with a 16" barrel would clock for velocity?

Other than firing some, I don't know much about belt fed machine guns. I wouldn't be surprised if the case shape of the WSM would be troublesome to work on a belt fed, there may be a specific length to case diameter required to properly fit the links.

I'll follow this closely. If the commercial equivalent is just as good (I have my doubt but one can hope.), it might be my next cartridge and firearm. Over 3000 FPS in a 16'' barrel sounds awesome!

With that cartridge and barrel length, there will be a lot of muzzle jump.

According to Quickload, under 2,800 FPS with a 140 Sierra and every IMR and Hodgdon power I tried.
