For those who own Promag Marauder mags

I received my kit today with some spare mags for a total of 4. I've noticed on 3/4 of them, the little metal wire is not touching the follower.

I have one where the metal wire is pushing against the follower.

Can someone check their mag and let me know which one it is supposed to be or if it will even affect function?

I'd take it to the range, but I don't have my 10/22 yet :p so I can't go shooting yet to test the mags out.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if it is touching the follower. I have 2 of the promag mags. That spring is to push against the ammo (supposed to help with feeding issues).

Either way... Post a pic of yours and I'll compare it to mine and let u know.
 
I'm only worried about it because I saw in the instructions that the wires have to be at very specific angles/positions to work properly.

Upon closer inspection and taking the mags apart, it looks like the follower is just snagging the feed lips slightly at the top so it doesn't go all the way to the wire.

Hopefully this doesn't affect performance. Will find out when I get my 10/22 :p
 
you should disassemble your mags and remove any flashing from the feed channel. You will notice sharp square pieces of plastic where the plastic was injected into the mold and for whatever reason they decided to put injection points in the feed channel. If you can find em all and file em down smooth you should increase reliability. There is a whole thread on this:

Thanks! I checked the feed channels and don't see any major flashing, little bits of plastic sure, which I just blew out and removed. But mostly it's just the feed lips not allowing the follower all the way up.

Will report back once I get a chance to hit a range.
 
So I finally got everything together and had time to test fire my rifle and test out the mags.

3/4 of them did pretty decent, with about 5 FTF and 1 FTE out of 125 rounds. Most FTFs were from the faulty mag.

Though one mag I gave up on and had to take out all the rounds and load them into another mag since it would not sit in my magwell.

On closer inspection I found 2 problems:

1. The larger flat pin to hold the mag into the magwell was lopsided and not flat like the others.

2. There was a missing hump on the mag that the other 3 mags had. Left is normal, right is the one that would not sit.

Any advice on what to do or how to resolve the problem? I was thinking of filing down the metal pin to make it flat but I don't know if the part sticking up being filed away is actually to spec, and the other side is just too short. Don't want to make the whole thing too short.

As for the missing hump, no idea.

I emailed Dave, waiting for response.
 
Update: so I shipped the mag back to hical out of my expense for around $14 with the promise of a new mag shipped backed to me that wouldn't have any problems.

Today I received the package with another mag inside of it. Problem is, the magazine has the same problems as the one I returned and is in, if not worse condition than the one I returned.

This one had tooling marks on a slanted metal tab and the smaller metal nib has a chunk missing. The polymer hump is still missing. Here's a crappy cell phone pic:

I really don't want to ship it back again out of my own pocket because I will have spent an extra ~$30 for shipping, almost the price of a new mag.

I bought one last month and all it does is jam. I had a friend try it on his sr22 today and all it did was jam. Anyone know how to correct this FTF or should I be expecting this?

Yes, I spoke via email about this. Thank you so much! :) Hopefully that new mag will fit in.

Time to do some grinding and modding to the mag, see if I can get it to work.

There are threads that you can find that give tips on how to make them more reliable. First try taking them apart and find any flashing in the polymer from the casting. File it down, clean it up and put it back together.

There is a break in period for the mags as well. After a while they will feed pretty reliably. Make sure you're loading them properly too with the rounds sitting well.
 
Hi Cal's service is simply EXCELLENT! I wish the mags were anywhere as good as their service! I have four 9/22 mags, and i can't for the life of me get them to reliably work! two of them jam every second shot, one will almost work, but has never functioned for a "full clip", ond the other, well its the same as all three..... I have a marauder. I glued a factory 10 round rotary mag to an airsoft m4 mag. it'll spit all 10 rounds out 99% of the time. so its not my rifle. i've given up on the 9/22's......
 
We have had numerous recent discussions with Promag lately with regard to the 9-22 mags, they have had some issues with the tooling & mold temps on the last run, they either seem to work well or have issues, a lot of the time, its a fitting issue to the firearm.The mag will be redesigned as the Gen 3. Once these new mags are available, i will personally be testing them when we sell them again. When the Gen 3s arrive, we will initiate some sort of exchange policy for any faulty mags that were purchased from Hical.ca. Thanks, Dave.

awesome. I have a couple faulty ones. One jams at least twice a mag and the other jams up almost every other shot. I even filed down any flashing and it only improved a little. I will definitely be interested in exchanging these for some gen 3's
 
Have any info on any advancements on the Gen3's? and is there any plan by promag to have replaceable metal feed lips? I got a 3 set with the mag clamp deal and they seem to work okay for me, still like to increase the reliability further though.
