Got to shoot it myself a week or so ago. Really like the way it recoils compared to its predicessor (which is nice), straight back and very easy to self spot with.

... let's not forget all their AW contracts for armies across the globe, but tactical does not necessarily mean tacti-cool, which this offering seems to have a healthy dose of.

I always found that it looked rugged and practical... Hell, in the basic configuration, you don't even get a Picatinny rail for your scope, there's just a dovetail! Just looks like a beefed up synthetic target rifle to me.

Now this new one is from a different planet!

The rings are part of the BORS system, yes they are a little high. It is a good job this rifle has a quick adjust cheek piece. she is a "peach" to shoot!

I see they also got rid of the Parker-Hale bipod... They're really catering to the North American market; guess the bottom like is starting to become more important! Worst of all, they practically duplicated the design of the French PGM Ultima Ratio (below)!!

In my opinion, AI should just refine their existing, and highly venerable, AW line.

The U.S. military is currently selecting a new .338 precision sniper rifle for the Army and Marines. AI created this rifle specifically for those trials.

PGM, Remington and a whole slew of other manufacturers are competing for the same contract. They look similar (folding stock, "tacticool" rails) because they need to meet the same military requirements listed here:

1. The system shall be chambered to safely fire factory produced "non-wildcat" .338 caliber ammunition.

2. The action shall be manually operated and available in left- and right-hand versions.

3. With primary day optic and ammunition, the system shall provide 1.0 MOA from 300 to 1,500 meters (in 300-meter increments) when fired from an accuracy fixture in nominal conditions. This is further defined as 1 MOA Extreme Vertical Spread for all shots in a five-round group at the stated distances.

4. Mean Rounds Between Stoppages (MRBS) with a magazine shall be 1,000 rounds.

5. The system shall have an overall length no greater than 52 inches in full configuration/extended excluding suppressor with a single component no greater in length than 40 inches.

6. The system shall weigh no more than 18 pounds with a 12:00 MilStd 1913 rail and a loaded five-round magazine.

7. The system shall be capable of operator breakdown in less than 2 minutes.

8. The system will assemble from breakdown in less than 2 minutes by the operator.

9. The system will assemble from breakdown with no change in weapon zero.

10. The system will have an integral MilStd 1913 rail at the 12:00 position. The rail will be capable of maintaining bore-sight alignment and weapon zero while conducting routine firing combined with combat movement and operational training drills.
