Finally finished piecing together my Savage and thought I would share some pics. Its wearing a 24" 7mm-08 Shilen barrel compliments of Jerry (mysticplayer). Contemplating painting it but I think it looks rather snazzy in black/silver. Gotta love these Savage rifles, did everything myself (barrel swap, bedding, etc....nothing to it really), saved a ton of money and she shoots to boot....Consistently puts .3/.4 inch groupings down range at 100 to the point where its boring (shooting 150gr SMK for the time being). It now wears a Sightron SIII 6-24 mildot scope, which out of all the scopes I've owned and tested (3 Leo MKIV's, 2 NF's, 2 Bushnell's) absolutely blows them out of the water. I highly recommend looking into this line of scopes......and finally some pics:

Nice rifle. Since I'm in the market for a new scope what you said about the Sightron intrigues me. Are they that good that the optical quality is noticeably better than a NightForce? Have you tested one on something like a 300WM or 338LM to see how they handle recoil?

Great job and happy that the Shilen barrel is shooting well for you.

Now let's go stretch its legs a bit. Hope you get a chance to play...

Let me know...

Jerry

PS the Sightron SIII LR scopes have been receiving very positive reviews on many US accuracy sites. The optics really are amazing despite the much lower price. The scopes that I have used tracked very well too. Let me know...

I got the mag on the EE actually, so not sure how long it may take from SSS, but probably about a week and a bit.

Yes the new SIII Sightrons are that good. Optics are noticeably better than NF and much better than Leupold. I like the adjustments better as well, really easy to click and very precise/repeatable. The turrets can move when bumped but they also come with caps if you're hunting. They will also cost you less than NF and MKIV scopes, so you really can't go wrong. I have only shot mine with medium sized cartridges like my 7mm08 but there is no doubt in my mind they would be perfectly fine for magnums, they are built extremely tough. I got mine in the States but Mysticplayer is a dealer for them. Will be a bit of a wait time as there is a huge demand for them now. Can't say enough good things about these scopes.

I'll get some pics up later today with the scope on her...

Here are some pics of the Sightron. At 6X there is slight distortion around the edges but this totally disappears around 8X. At higher magnifications is where this scope really shines, super crisp and clear. The side focus is the best I've ever used and you can obtain a crisp image in seconds without going back and forth to find that sweet spot. Forgot to mention it has 100 moa of adjustment for both elevation and windage, very impressive. Obviously these pictures suck and don't give the scope justice but I thought I'd try.
