I have a customer that is looking at buying a Forehand & Wadsworth Double Action revolver off me. In 32 rimfire. The bore is in VG shape. And the gun works like a new gun lockup is 95+% real nice, but the gun shows its age.(1871-1877) And he was wounding if it would be worth his time to have a gun smith redo the nickel on the gun. I told him that it would cost more then what the gun was worth to have that done. And then the marking would not look that nice.

Do you know what it would cost to have it done? And is there a place in Canada that will do this?

I was also thinking he may want to have it redone in duracoat silver/chrome that would be a lot less. then it would not rust.

I had a large flare pistol rechromed about 1 year ago; cost roughly $80 if I remember correctly. That price is where is did most of the metal work of filing and sanding out the pits in the barrel etc. I would think you would easily be looking at over $100 to rechrome that gun including removing the pits and further that you would probably run into problems with pieces not fitting because of added metal. Cylinder pin too tight for example. Also necessary to strip the gun into component parts and have the parts chromed individually. I have a shotgun here that some meathead had chromed and the barrels won't close, the locks appear to have been dipped in still assembled and so forth apart from looking just plain ugly.

Saw that gun on gunbroker and was going to buy it i can't believe
you beat me to it again on another gun.
definitely worth the $135.00

i paid a lot more then that. (maybe too much) i made him a deal to end it. seeing i was watching them over the last year and they sell for 300-500 on there.

also i pay my gun smith to go over all the guns. and fix what needs to be fixed.

i was going to buy this one for $475.00 untill i seen that one forsale.

Well I talked to my gun smith in the USA
-he is going to redo the gun.
-Strip it down
-and hot blue the gun
-change out all the springs.
-the pits on the gun are not deep so they will come out nice. (I hope)

Total cost for the gun & work. Will cost close to $500.00 (he tells me he is giveing me a hell of a deal)
Witch I think is a good deal. Seeing it will be like new.

Thats not too bad, she will be a nice unit all said and done.

The way I think of it, I have 3 Forehand & Wadsworth da's and there all in VG shape for the year.
I am going to keep the best one out of the 3 and sell the other two.

Also I thought I had one in 41cal somewhere and it is pissing me off, I looked all day to try to find it but no luck. I don’t think I sold it. So if some one sees this post and I sold you one in 41 cal please let me know so I can stop looking!!!
(I need to clean up the gun room)
