I just got a Surefire forend for my 870, problem is it's not for a 870.

The forend is meant for a shotgun with a longer forend than the 870, the space on the 870 between the action arms and forend nut is 5 3/8", this forend needs 6" between the arms and nut.

Any ideas?

just measured some 870 forends: cant really help you other than to confirm that the ones i have laying around are all between 5 1/4 and 5 3/8" (if you measure from between where the forend nut and the action arms butt up against).

If you can determine what gun it is made for, you can sell it.

If you want to play with it to make it work, you can probably use a dremel to grind away part of the shoulders of either the nut side or action bar side.

That's my hope, sell it and use the money towards a correct forend.

The "tube" of the forend is the right diameter, but I would have to open about 3/4" at the end to fit the forend nut and it should work. I'd rather not risk butchering it up, especially if I can sell it.

No box, no markings on the forend other than Surefire and the patent #s.

There is a round green sticker on the top of the forend (that would be covered by the barrel), I'm hoping that it's a colour code system (I'm waiting to see if Surefire can provide some info).

Surefire came through: :)
From emailed photos they identified it as a 623FGA for the Mossberg 590/500 with 7 3/4 inch forarm tube.( watch the EE later in the week)

They're also going to replace a worn switch (cosmetic only, the rubber wore off) on another forend I have.:dancingbanana:
