So I'm new here and wondering if anyone has an opinion (of course you do), on a new quad rail handguard to replace the standard M4 forend on my NEW!!Bushmaster 16" carbine. I've looked at Troy, UTG, Daniel Defense. Has anyone installed a Troy unit? Is it easy? They talk about cutting off the Delta ring, or dismantling the gun then removing the Delta ring. Has anyone done it? Is it easier than it sounds - don't want to hurt the new baby you know. I'm considering the Troy, or Daniel defense both with the extension that goes past the front sight post, as I want a true free floated barrel when I'm done. Would love to hear back folks. After this will be a flip up rear BUIS, some kind of optic, Aimpoint or Eotech... and so on and so on. I better get another job!:canadaFlag:

Thanks

I've been using a Troy 12" for a few years now on my middy AR and am happy with it. It goes over a low profile gasblock, so I can't comment one the extended on that surrounds the sight tower. I bought it before I had the uppper receiver blocks and tools to take the barrel off. So, I cut the delta ring/etc. with a Dremel. Was very careful and took my time and it went fine. The rail bolted on and everything lined up perfectly. One trick I used was clamping the handguard rail and the upper receiver rail together using a sight riser. This kept everything aligned while I was tightening the bolts. Am using a Troy flip-up front and a GG&G MAD rear, with an Aimpoint ML3 in between.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm leaning towards the Troy rail, and looks like a Troy flip rear sight will end up on the gun too. I did order the receiver block so I will just have to decide if I go with the dremel tool, or take things apart.

I removed my FSB on my Norc CQ, no issues, even though I ended up drilling out the tapper pins. I didn't damage the barrel at all, if you are so inclined, it's not hard to do. Once you have removed the FSB, removing the delta ring is a snap of you have a delta ring wrench (I ordered on when I ordered my new 1 piece rail). As for the dremel approach I think you will have to watch it, they have a tendency to wander, you don't want to slip and hit the upper or the barrel.

Have you looked at the DD Omega's? it's a 2 piece design, that installs ON the delta ring, and is free floating. It installs up pretty tight, I had no problems. There are 4 st screws hat are used to tighten the rail to the delta ring once it is installed. Plus you get the added bonus of a complete upper rail from upper to rail without a break where the delta ring is. Some rails like the LaRue's don't offer that, something to think about.

I have no experience with the Troys', I do like their over all design (the one on the Ruger SR556 is pretty sweet looking!) especially the continuous top rail feature, but I really wanted a rail that was more narrow, so that once you put on some rail guards it doesn't end up too bulky.

So good luck on the decision, lets see some pic's when your done!

I used the TROY drop in unit on my C8 overseas, it was rock solid and held up great.

Got it from One Shot Tactical for about $150 IIRC.
