Hello all

I faxed my Form 6 down to ATF on Dec. 20 and still no reply, same with my shooting partner. Anyone else get a faster response? I have had them for years and this is the longest I have waited. I know they say upto 8 weeks but I have never waited more than 2 weeks.

That sounds long, but I guess there was the holiday break in there. My experience has been that they are pretty customer service focused over there. I'd give them a call.

I've never waited more than a few weeks, using fax return. It wouldn't hurt to call down there. My buddy had a long delay once and he ended up calling. The lady he spoke to was very nice and was able to tell him his fax of ID wasn't clear enough and that was causing the delay. She got it sorted out for him and now he faxes then calls 2-3 days later every year to make sure it's all good. Apparently its a small office where they do the 6N's (wouldn't expect that for ATF!) and all 2-3 of the staff there are very helpful.

Only a couple of days for the last one. I asked them to email the approved forms which they did. I thin the first time you apply it may take longer.

Take Care

Bob

I will have to give them a call. I have had them for as long as they have been available, and this is the longest I have waited in my memory. Mine had a couple of additions but my buddy's was same as last year and still nothing for either of us.

I don't think you can use it for attending a club unless there is a match on there, could be wrong but I thought it does not meet the conditions for granting a Form 6. Check out The Lost Target website, has lots of info or ATF website.

Can someone here give me a rundown on this process, and also on the typical border crossing, and how it plays out.

Fill out the F6NIA application... Don't worry about the hunting lic./match invitation sections... Leave them blank.
Submit to BATFE imports branch.
Wait for approved permit to arrive via email.

When you cross the border it's a good idea to have with you an "invitation" or match flyer to show the BPO just in case they ask for "something" to support your "stated reason" for entering the US. If you're a member of a US shooting club I bet your membership card would suffice.

Most of my crossings have gone something like:

Where you going?

To ### to shoot a ### match.

How many guns you have with you..?

This many...

'You have your BATFE papers?

Yup... (Hand 'em over)

BPO looks at F6NIA... asks which of the guns listed are coming in...?

I tell him/her THis one that one and that other one..

BPO hand back the F6NIA

"Have a nice day"

Out of the many times I've gone to the US to shoot I've been sent "inside" maybe three times... Each time it was a minor delay, but uneventful. Basically digressed into a show and tell session with the officers who wish they could go shoot the match too.

Well I called ATF today and they tell me it was approved and faxed on Dec. 31, but I never got it! So they e-mailed and I am ready to go. Kinda wonder who got my fax...
