Forming 30-06 from .270?

The 270 brass will have to be trimmed to 30-06 length. The 270 was based on the longer 30-03 case.

I imagine if you lube the inside of the neck well it should go OK. The resulting brass should of course be trimmed to length after you form it and closely inspected for stress cracks in the neck. I have never done .270 to '06 but assuming the shoulder will be in the right place after forming, that is the important bit. You would do well to be certain of this so you don't wind up with brass that is short on head space. As far as I recall the datum line is the same for both.

Did it, works fine. Expand the neck and decap in one stage. Trim to length since the case is longer than the '06 needs to be and the resizing seemed to make the case mouth jagged no matter how much lube I used.
I did it for fun, there is no real reason to do it unless you are completely overwhelmed with .270 brass since it is nice to have a proper headstamp on a cartridge.
That being said, enjoy.

I've got some .270 casings liing around I just want to form them to 30-06 to make my bullet pens. Thanks for the info, just wanted to know if it's easily done and (or) worth it.
Unless someone wants to trade for them?
