My point is that you are referring to them as "nato 40mm gas mask filter russian".

They cannot be NATO and Russian.
 
Most likely they are Newer GOST filters, = No Asbestos. The GOST does screw into the NATO thread, but it's not 100% sealed. I mean...you know, there is always Duct Tape, as fore-mentioned ;) You can 'find' a 40MM to Standard adapter, to screw in Regulator Respirator N95 etc filters. Someone should be 3D printing them, as they are hard to find.

They could be, but the writing on the canister indicates these are GP-5 canisters made in 91. Production of the masks ended in 1990, so these are likely replacements for masks still kicking around. It is almost certain to contain asbestos, which is not going to be a problem unless the canister has been battered around at some point in its 30 year life.

I can't say anything about the mask, but I would steer well clear of those canisters unless they are certified asbestos-free and are for novelty purposes only. The thread would be similar diameter but different pitch. Some reports clean they screw on to NATO masks but does it make sense to take a risk with a device meant to save your life?

Questions we need answers to:
  • What size are these? Photo shows size 2, which is medium. I have a big head, I need a size 1. My kids would need a 3.
  • What is the year of manufacture? They are rated for 25 years from production. A mask made in 2000 is nearing obsolence.
  • Are the canisters GP-5? When were they made? Are they certified asbestos free?
  • What is the canister thread? GOST40 or NATO40? They are not the same and it matters.

Size 2 is the only size available

A Swedish mask would almost certainly be NATO thread.

Russian canisters are almost certainly GOST thread.

The threads are similar and may even thread on, but will not seal properly.
 
Alright everyone below are pics of the filters. They are GP-5 filters. They are GOST thread which from the reading I have done means they do fit and work with NATO masks, but NATO threat will not work with GOST.

We will be contracting those with orders for the spare filters and offering a refund or store credit. Realistically if you are running for a gas mask these filters will be fine. If you plan on wearing it for extended periods of time like while doing house chores, shopping, going to the disco... it is likely a good idea to get a better filter.

Other than that. These masks are pretty damn awesome!

Allegedly, a rubber ring will work to give an airtight seal on a gost mask with 40mm NATO filter. I 3D printed a gost thread for my GP-5 to hold in a piece of HEPA filter for an antiviral mask.

In an emergency, you can wedge in a circle of HEPA filter to protect you from asbestos. Although a brand new filter would obviously be better.
