Just got a set of Forster gauges for my Lee Enfields and it suggests that best results are obtained by removing the extractor. Since none will close with the extractor in, I assume one has to remove it?
Or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
No need. The Field gauge should be I think .070"?
Use that...just feed it a little bit into the chamber from below, then close the bolt, pushing the gauge up under the extractor as you close the bolt. While doing this, have the trigger pulled so the rifle is not being cocked.
Now, you take two fingers, and
gently ease the bolt handle down till you meet resistance. Stop here...you are done.
Try the same thing again with no gauge present to get a feel for how it feels that way, then compare.
Do not force the bolt handle down against resistance.
Now, some will say, use military gauges, the field spec is .074" for military.
Now, if your rifle passes the Forster SAAMI spec, it will pass the military spec with flying colours, which allows 4 more thou of slop? I have both gauges.
