Hey Gang:

So I picked up a neck sizing/shoulder bump die from Forster and have a question, this is for .308WIN using Lapua brass mainly and some Federal....is case lube required with this die? I had thought one of the points of these types of dies was to be able to skip the need for case lube...but see in the instructions that came with the die a reference to "lightly lubricate the case neck and shoulder with Forster High Pressure Lube".

Can anyone advise or offer any insight here? Thanks in advance.

I own several Forster bump dies and I've never had a need to lube the neck or shoulders. Noticed that you have a .335 bushing. Ideally you should have 0.002 neck tension so you'll need to measure the thickness of your brass multiply by two + .308 = bushing size.

do you turn your necks?

if not, when a neck tichness is not eaven and there is a thicker spot, using a bushing die it will crate a lump Inside(pressure point) that will cause run out and uneven launch and ...... a flyer

I haven't been turning the necks as of yet, looks like I may need to start if I plan on using this die?

Any recommendations on what tool is best for turning necks? I see most of the manufacturers have something that does the job.

I use the Forster dies (308) and do use a lube on the necks BUT!!!! VERY, VERY sparingly. I wipe off the excess with a Kleanex. Hard to describe how much to use but my fingertip JUST touches the lube jar then wipes on the case neck.

If you want to turn necks, Forster sells a very nice tool for that as well. Oh, and by the way, no lube goes on the body of the brass, just the neck/shoulder area.

Cheers thanks for all the replies gents, I'll look into the neck turning tool likely another order to Hirsch Precision in my future. I've always full length sized and this is my first foray into the precision world so lots to learn.

Glad to see this thread as I just got the Forster Bushing Bump Die for my 6.5x55, and I have never used one before. I was not aware of the importance of neck turning when using these dies.
