Fort McMurray CGNers

I am in the process of putting something together on AO And if sll are in agreement I can consolidate all the gear in one .
i gave a range finder snd a pair of binoculars I am donating to the cause , but it will be several weeks to maybe a month before we can get back into things up there ,

Cat

I only have three names so far, but I am sure that Cat already has those three, because he knows all three people as well. A couple of friends are getting me the contact information for two more avid hunters that lost their homes and all of their gear.

I have two more names and phone numbers to contact them. According to very trustworthy friends of mine.,both young men lost their homes and all of their firearms and hunting gear. I am waiting to confirm from a friend whether a third person managed to take his firearms with him before leaving his home which burned.

What an unbelievably great thread! Thanks from another Fort McMurray resident.

I'm one of the lucky ones as my house is still standing. Fire ripped past only a hundred yards from my place. Our subdivision was untouched but the one on the other side of the ravine we live on was completely destroyed. A neighbour of mine has connections and he had a friend go by our places five days ago. What a relief to get pictures of our place and to finally know that all was good. A week ago we were told with 95% certainty that it was gone. I was told the place reeked of smoke but other than that it was the same as when we left.

I know of one long-term resident of Fort McMurray that lives in Waterways. A few years ago he got divorced and lost over half of everything he owned. Now he has lost the rest. What a crappy deal. The amazing part it that he is taking it in stride and not letting it get him down.

I'll send his name to Cat to be put on the list. I'm not sure he would accept the offer but he is as deserving as anyone.

Thanks again for the kind sentiments from all who call Fort McMurray home!

Soooo, they are talking June1st to sart moving back up.
If all things work out , we will get back up there on June 2nd.
I will be busy cleaning up my freezers and the fridge for the first little while, but we will get this going after, for sure.
Haven't had a report on my son's place after the fire got back up and swung around, but hopefully his is okay as well.
As soon as possible , we can start looking at getting a list of names and getting stuff shipped up and taken care of.
Anybody can contact me here , PM me and I will give you my email.

A good friend and a hunter, had his home explode when they were commissioning the natural gas in his area. He is a younger man with a family, and he was relieved that his home survived the fire, only to lose it later to an explosion. Once I can confirm that all of his gear was lost, I will add his name to the list.

Sad to hear stubblejumper....... When the dust settles let me know..... Will get a that 10/22 for someone like this (thinking kids, young shooters, cheap plinking distraction)......

Cat

Cat,

my two scopes are waiting for names or rifles to be fitted with.

i think one is going with a 270 so someone will go with a 270 and bushnell elite, at least a good way to start back.

Phil

I just spoke with a friend that I used to shoot skeet with, and he lost everything. He is commuting now, but Suncor apparently will have a rental for him on the 1st.

Been on the Kenai Penninsula for the past ten days. Glad to see things are slowly coming together in Fort Mac.

That Husqvarna 30-06 is ready to go whenever.
Ted

My donation of a Husqvarna in 270 is on the way to Phil as we speak. The plan is for him to mount a scope on it and then to send it on to 'Cat'.

My donation of a new .243 Vanguard got to a well deserving feller in the Mac on the 20th.,thanks to Cat who handled the receiving of the gift to his friend that lost all his goodies which the stinkin' insurance company wouldn't cover. Sure hope the recipient has good time with the rifle and I wish all the folks in Mac make out OK in the near future. I'll be back up next summer to do some hangin' out with family relatives and new amigos and to work on fire safety recommends to the fire officials in the region. (IE: Metal roofs and Hardy Plank siding.)

Thanks also to Ted fer getting this thread rollin'.:)

Cheers,

JJ
