Went into a LGS today to take a look at some handguns, and in the corner of my eye I spotted something on the magazine wall.

It was a BX-25. I remember reading threads about them being hard to find/no longer allowed into Canada and a couple people wishing they could get them, and since it was the last one on the shelf, I picked it up :D

It was priced at $38.95 +tax.

Fits great in my Marauder! Much better fit than the Promag 25 rounders. Can't wait to try it out at the range :p

OK I'm confused... It's .22 right? A Mag for a 10/22 has to be pinned to 10 rounds? Or is this firearm special for some reason...?
Typing BX25 into the search field would give a wealth of information but I'll sum it up- Ruger advertised this magazine as working in a pistol as well as rifles, thus it is classed as a pistol mag and limited to 10...

Eh, I asked the gun shop about the magazine. They said they started getting them about 3 weeks ago. So it's not like its old inventory.

I was told it was fine. Are gun dealers allowed to just sell a prohibited device to someone?

The gentleman at the store told me it was because Ruger took off the advertising that it will fit the pistol on the outside of the packaging. And I just loaded it, it is indeed a 25 round mag.

well it seems the magazines is not a prohibited device according to the rcmp website so far!!!! who knows if they have updated it or not , ruger was not shipping these magazines because it fits into the charger , they didnt want to get involved in any legal issues

So what does the back of the packaging look like? Can you take a pic for us?

This.

I don't think it has anything to do with compatibility with a pistol, it's just if they advertise it or not.

Any 10/22 aftermarket mag works in the 10/22 pistol if you think about it (Butler Creek etc.) but they're just not advertised that way.

Oooooooohhh.

Thanks... Learned something new today.:)

I'm guessing either human error or Ruger's legal team has somehow "clarified" with the RCMP that the BX-25 was designed for the 10/22 and is only compatible with the Charger as a happy coincidence.

Hmm bonus for me I suppose?

Anyone have an actual link from RCMP that says it is indeed a prohibited device?

Or is just a general speculation/Ruger not wanting to ship it initially?

beat me to it, thats the link I was looking for. As long as your BX-25 is unpinned you are in possesion of a prohibited device just for your knowledge and the store you bought it from should be notified. Not being an ass but its your but on the line if you get caught with it in your possesion
