FOund a cool modern SVT40 Scope mount setup

Anyone seen one/own one? Only $150.... was thinking since a repro of the original runs $600 by the time you get the scope and mounts and still doesnt work if you dont have the notched sniper variant...

6 small set screws. Digging into the steel receiver rails...and you have to clean the rifle every time you fire it with corrosive ammo. So, undo the set screws and slide the mount off.

Looks like a nice mount but...the SVT pretty much needs the mount slid off every time it's shot to clean it.

Contrast that with any bolt action rifle with a solidly mounted scope.

ps I will say this...this mount appears to be the best and most useful of the ones I've seen.
 
the manufacturer has a standing policy of 100% satisfaction, he says if you see ejecting brass hitting your scope, or youre unhappy with it in any way, send it back to him for 100% refund. for all his mounts.
very nice to deal with good canadian/american shops...
 
i asked and he says the set screws are high quality and wont be a problem over time especially since you barely tighten them. the thing is made so exacting that you can use it without the set screws at all, it was just for people to feel better and avoid it moving back with recoil over time.

as for holding zero, he says you dont need to clean your bolt assembly often, just the gas system and bore... so he leaves his on.. but you can remove the bolt assembly by moving the mount back 3/4" if needed... he says he removes his bolt cover and completely disassembles the rifle for cleaning only once a year or so....
 
Are replacement covers available? Might be worthwhile if I could pull the "original" off and use a sacrificial cover.

If the original type of mounting system does no screw up your zero then there is no reason why this system, which is identical in operation should either. I have asked if it's possible to incorporate the original type locking system for those who have genuine snipers, he is looking into it.

As it looks like the perfect solution, and it's made in Canada ! I have just ordered one. I should have it soon.

i would think removing the original soviet system would ruin your zero too, if youre not extremely careful...
but they probably never really did and would zero back to the usual 100m right away... and from what i hear the russians were not very good about cleaning these properly (regular soldiers) so they probably rarely (if at all) removed the bolt cover to do a thorough cleaning.. the soviet scope doesnt block the removal of the bolt carrier the way a big modern scope does..so it wouldnt have had to be moved.

I guess we'll find out!!! I think im gonna grab one too.
