I went to the Woodstock gun show just for a look when i saw a grimey
Remington 572 fieldmaster with a 3/4" 70's bushnell 2-7 scope too.

I got it home and completly dissasembled it for some much needed
steel wool, SP3 lube, and some polishing of the internals. I also use a bit of moly paste and lube on the action bar and a light coating on the bolt/ pin assembly..I do the same thing with my Wingmaster to make it buttery smooth.

Overall now its in 90 percent finnish condition with a few scratches and dings here and there but pretty good for its age, Remingtonsociety says its a 1972.

Ive only shot it with the iron sights so far at 25 yrds but slapped a Bushnell 4-12 A/O banner on it tonight. I used to own a 552 speed master and a targetmaster so im expecitng good things. Anyone who has shot a remington knows these things are freaky accurate so i am expecting .250 at 50 yrds even with all the wood and tube mag contacting the barrel....lol

Ive been patiently looking for one of these since i sold my 552. It is a very reliable accurate plinker and very capable hunting rifle. Holds 15 LR or 25 shorts. Also one of the things i really like is how easy it is to pop one in the breech and go. Just like the 870.
I know some think they are just fugly but to me its my Ulitmate!

By the way it cost me $200 at the show

very nice, i try to keep an eye out for an old remmy bolt action .22 but they seem to be scarce too.

it looks like you cleaned her up nice, i hope it is a tack driver :)

Beautiful find  , great price.....:)

Those older-design Remingtons are a personal weakness of mine.......I've got a 552 Speedmaster, two 550-1 Speedmasters, a 512 Scoremaster, a Model 12A pump, and a 572 pump I just recently acquired...:yingyang:...great firearms, all of 'em (though watch your hands and thumbs when supporting & firing the 552, and the brass when firing the 550-1....and your prone firing position when trying to use the 572)! :D

Ok so this is what its going to look like for a little while i think .
The big scope really messes up the balance of whats meant to be a snap shoot easy loading and handling "fieldmaster" So i dug out a peep sight I had laying around. Sorry i dont know what make it is but its very compact and sits very low to the receiver.
Distance between the sights is 25 inches. I filled the rear sight holes with black crayon wax to smoothen out the barrel too. I can get it to group inside 1" standing at an indoor 25 yrds range and better from a rest. With CB Longs all i do is just cover the target and get the same groups as LR. I hope you enjoy the picture i sure enjoy this rifle. Think i will buy a case of value pop and head to the country.

There was a little surface rust on the barrel. I also used it on the stock to polish things up a little. The wool rating i use is 0000. It is very fine.

One more change, I decided i wanted some optics, the peep for everything 25 and under and the scope for 50 and more.
Its a tasco bantam 4 power with gamo see through mount.

Your lucky: my son inherited one from his Grandfather in perfect condition that can't hold a 5" group at 50yds. I had it checked out by gunsmiths who can't find a simple fix or get it to group either..........final conclusion crappy barrel............Son refuses to part with is so there it sits in the gun room and he shoots his Marlin micro groove....
