I was at the chilliwack B.C. HACS gun show on Sunday with LAz.... and I stumbled across quite possibly the nicest, tightest norc m14 i have yet to have in my hands.
First off, the most peculiar (to me anyways) is that this rifle has it's model, manufacturer info stamped on the receiver heel like the usgi ones and only the serial number is stamped on the left side like they are on the new rifles. There is no electropencil numberings anywhere on the the rifle.
the heel stamp reads
M14 SPORTER
NORINCO CHINA
CAL ST ALB VT

Rear sights are excellent, with proper diameter on the threaded end of the sight pinion, with very positive clean function
Gas system is perfectly tight
flash hider is a solid "dummy flasher" and has no bayo lug, has the two holes for the welds.... but no welds holding it on. :) machining and finish of the flashider/sight base is EXCELLENT
Barrel bang on index
VERY nice oprod
Machining and general finish of the receiver is EXCELLENT and comparable to a USGI except the norc is parkerized not blued... the are ZERO machining marks, finish is flawless.
Headspaces between 1 and 2 thou over 7.62nato go :dancingbanana:
THE ONLY tuning this rifle required was i had to re pin the oprod guide as it was loose and needed to be set in time with the gas piston
Trigger was average.... swapped in a new HR hammer.....smoothed it right up. trigger breaks at just over 6 lbs.... will adjust to 5.5 and tune the safety so it's not so tight.

She's a keeper ;)

I find this rifle to be very interesting cuz it's obviously one of the older norc imports. I messaged Different to see if he can provide any info on this rifle.... I've never seen a heel stamped norc..... I think it's kinda cool

Congratulations !! Can't wait to see pictures.
It sounds just like the heel stamped Norinco we have in the states.

I have 3 heel stamped Norinco and 2 heel stamped Poly Tech you can compare it to.

Wow I didn't know M14 can look so good. What make is the stock? Is it milled aluminium? Who makes (or sell) them?

there is no stamping indicating poly tek , I think it is a Century Arms import

H2O man how do you get the stampings to come up white..... i have my own ideas on how to do it but.... before i make a mess i thought i'd ask hehehe
I'll take some pics tonite

There was a shipment of Norincos in the early 90's (I think it was 1990, but may have been 1991) that came in heel stamped, it was Century that brought them in. I don't know how many they brought in, but I remember at the time they seemed to be better than the previous ones. At least 2 shops in the Lower Mainland sold them.

I used white crayon or grease (china) pencil on my guns...works great

I've also seen this recommended by the Stuart Mowbray of Gun Collector magazine and Man At Arms Books. Does not hurt anything and residue comes off with a little mineral sprirts, assuming it does not just wipe away.
