Found a nice SKS at Crapbelas for 189.99. Here is the plan.........

Dam, Enfield303, I like your so much, the way the grain just jumps out at you, it got me thinking about restripping mine and making it a bit lighter. I really like that finish, I got some thinking to do!
Again, very, very nice looking finish.

I was thinking about doing it in green until I got all the old finish off. Then I thought WOW this wood is too too beautiful to mess up with stain.
I really like the finish. No more varathane for me, tung oil only. It was $23.00 for a half litre but soo worth it.

Haha thought I was original with the "crapbellas" line

Started calling it "Crapbelas" about 6 months after I started working there, HORRIBLE company to work for. Guess I was a sucker for punishment, stayed for 4 years. That was back when they first came up here.
The really sad part is that I spent most of my pay cheques there. Got some really great deals though.

I've never even heard of tung oil until I read your thread, it makes for one hell of a nice looking finish. I'm assuming it dries and leaves no oily feel or smell?

The first couple of coats stink like hell because you have to thin it with turpentine or mineral spirits, but after that it just has a nutty smell.
The down side is you have to keep wiping off the oil that the wood will not absorb(really it is an upside the more you rub the finer the finish). After it cures there is no smell or oily feel at all.
