Found a venerable old classic, rare config.

As tiriag pointed out a repro butt plate is available from Galazan (part#PB100) for about $35.00 and would correct your l.o.p issuses. Just be happy that it was not cut when the pad was installed. The repro butt plates are very good quality and finish perfectly and your stock is really not that bad age considered and would clean up very well. That gun earned those marks in the stock while afield and are to be expected.
I totally agree with you on the refinishing issue but I think that buyers here are warming up to touched up guns as high grade guns are becoming more sought after, and collectors here often still want to use these guns not make them safe queens. The other issue with american guns is they get much more use as anybody here can afford to hunt weekly within a half hour from home were as on the other side of the pond you must be wealthy or save up for a hunt and travel to your hunting area, so our guns show the signs of constant use.

A 1894 remington in good condition is a rarity in itself as most are pretty beat up and they are a good gun but are just not on the radar of the collectors yet as they are considered common. I know that they are not as I have been looking for one that is better than the one I have which is about 65%. Hold on to it because it will increase in value in the future.
I sold a remington hammer gun a while back that got cut down to 20" after for cowboy action!!
I have a 16 gauge Remington haammerless also, if anyone is interested!:D

Fox Model B measurements

Got the measurements to the AH Fox model B, finally. Thanks to Sharptail for the use of his tools and a helping hand. The details:

Length of pull: 14 3/8"
LOP w/o butt pad: 13 15/16"
Barrels: full 32 inches
Drop at comb: 1.43"
Drop at heel: 2.70"
Left muzzle: .698"
Right muzzle: .697"

The measurements at the muzzle would indicate the chokes are very slightly more open than full choke. This conclusion could change if the bore diameter were known. My suspicion is that this gun was ordered as a water-fowler and that this is supported by the 32" barrels and full chokes on both barrels.

The weight of the gun came as a bit of a shock. It weighs in at 8.0975 lbs. Having hunted with it twice already, I found that this seemed much higher than I would have expected. However, the balance point is between the hands and, despite the long barrels, it handles very well. Using Don Amos' formula for evaluating game gun handling characteristics, this gun scores 2.06691

Most everyone reading this thread knows that an AH Fox grade B is a very different creature than a Savage Fox model B. But, I thought I should mention this distinction, lest readers new to these makes/models mistake them for the same gun and pay Philadelphia Fox prices for a Savage Fox B.:(

Thanks for taking the time to determine/post the info.....I find those bits of data always interesting.

BTW, in case you may be planning on adding another sxs to your collection.....there is this very nice (obviously refinished) F. Beesley 16ga, straight grip with 30 inch bbls at Epps :D :D
