My grandpa brought back a few things, no pistols, but a Lee Enfield and some swords from Japan. He said they were actually doing the checks when he docked back in Canada. All they would do is put a chaulk mark on the bag and toss it in a pile. So my grandpa ran back into the ship found some chalk and put a tick on his bag threw it in the checked pile. I got the rifle, which unfortunately he bubbed. The swords I was suppose to get, but alas a certain #### uncle took them before I could get there and who knows where they are now. I remember one sword was a Japanese officer's dress sword and the other was a katana.
