I'm surprised at the look of the pine tar also, didn't expect it would look so clear. You did a nice job though, although I prefer the reddish look on the Mosin stocks myself.
thanks! I like the look of the original mosin as well, but I didn't think I could accomplish it without the right dyes/pigment. I decided to try to make it more like a finn one, with the pine tar finish, but I guess the deal with pine tar is how much junk and dirt it can pick up over the years of using it, which is why I finished/sealed it with Tom's 1/3. Still, it makes the grain show, which I like.
