Lets say i was walking in a store locally yesterday and just happened to spot 1 lonely little Marlin 1895 Trapper 45-70 Dark series sitting in the gun rack corner by itself.
I damn near bought it on the spot.

Considering going back tomorrow to get it. Should i??
$2030 CAD

I'm thinking, "don't waste a moment and go buy it"
Problem is, you're asking this crowd. We lean heavy, very heavy to the I regret what I didn't buy more than the I regret I spent to much mind set.

So just buy the gun. Win, lose or draw, doesn't matter. You added one more gun. One you can pass to a grand child. Teach a kid to shoot. Take the biggest game animal you could dream of.
That gun, that Marlin was meant for you hands. Make destiny happen

Ill probably just sell that and replace it with this

Full power 45-70 in a lightweight lever gun is a challenge on your shoulder. A friend just had to have one of the Guide Guns and after spending the money on gun and ammo discovered the thing kicks like a mule and the ammo is pretty expensive. It got sold off fairly quickly.

Not as bad as a 12 gauge 3" magnum. Those are a KICK. These are more of a shove, thanks to the slower powder.
Anyone owning a .45-70 should be reloading.
For rabbit and bush chicken, I put a 150 grain .457 lead ball over 10 grains of pistol powder to quietly bowl 'em over at about 800 FPS.
A copper plated Campro 300 grain bullet over 30 grains of IMR 4198 makes a very pleasant plinking load.
Use slower IMR 3031 for 400 gn and above to slow the shove even more.
No need to hurt with these babies unless you're actually going into Grizzly country...

There is some debate on the quality between the Ruger made versions and the previous generation, Ruger being better. If it's the painted wood stock and not the polymer (Ruger version), thats a good way to determine. Price is very good for the Ruger version, and still pretty decent for the previous generation.

i'll be going back to my local supplier this morning to get my "hands on" and see how impulsive i am.
Even if it's in my safe for the sake of "having it", it's true that the price point is good. It's the synthetic stock Ruger version, I see guys selling these brand new online for ~$3200

Price is definitely very good, but I find those ads on GP are what I would describe as the "skip the line" price, as they are generally sold out most places.

There are more and more coming into the country, unless it's something you're looking to get because you want it not because it's "rare", then buy it. The rare factor is pretty well dead i'd say at this point. I've seen more than 2 dozen of them and the 30-30 pop up at retailers just in the last month. There are a number sitting on gun post that don't sell at exorbitant pricing, and someone on here that seems to think it's worth even more at $3500, but they don't sell.

Hahah yeah, 8 pages later, and about 47 bumps later.... they are still for sale at $3200+ with no takers

With a muzzle break it’s not that bad

I have a Ruger No 3 full power loads are a treat I haven't shot my 1895 yet until I can make weaker loads for it. Bought one box of factory ammo 40 some years ago rest were reloads.
