as I understand these were sort of an east german "zeiss"

back in the day I had a Brno 7x57 with one and it seemed okay but that is stretching my memory a bit

I had one on a ZKK 601 .308. Really good scope, high quality for the era. Built tough, very solid and a little heavy. They are a Communist bloc Zeiss scope, just not quite as slim and refined as the West German Zeiss models. Vertical adjustment was straight forward, If I remember correctly you may need to loosen off a coin slotted lock screw first. No clicks. Once set, it won't change point of impact. Horizontal adjustment was with the mount screws. I never needed to adjust mine horizontally. The second turret is for image focus / diopter correction. Set it for your eyes and you're good to go at all practical ranges.

So did docter show up after Germany was re-unified? I know they make a version of the popular border patrol binoculars.

certainly as before that they called karl zeiss Jena so docter was certainly for the unification time.

Back in the day, Roy Weatherby liked them enough to contract a number of them built wearing the Weatherby logo.

I had a couple of those with the Weatherby signature and they were excellent all around, held zero and were sharp and clear, while withstanding heavy felt recoil.

The Weatherby scopes where made by Hertel & Reuss as far as I can find info on. I see the visual similarities not sure if theirs any connection between them and Jena. Would be interesting if its a similar internal construction, coincidentally? causing the same two dials on top setup, ex employees? some company collaborations.
