I picked up this lot of militaria at a local antique show yesterday. In it was:

A dress coat, shirt and ties from the estate of a Cpt. White from Red Deer. Story I was given was that he was a dentist in the RCAF in WWII.

Pair of WWI combat boots made by Valentine & Martin of Waterloo, Ont.

A small web pouch. I'm not sure what this is as I haven't seen one before.

A headset in shambles.

A military crate/suitcase belonging to a M/Cpl Dombowsky.

Oxygen mask, marked 60/302 G.P. & R. LTD C.3. 1945

A lifejacket and bellows. The bellows has a 303 cartridge for a fitting on it.

US marked rifle case

6 Canadian marked Putees. I needed a set for the '37 web set I've been slowly putting together over the last 5 years.

I wound up taking the lot for about 1/2 of listed price, so even though several of these pieces will be moved on I was happy to pick it all up.

Then he showed me something very neat:

A 1959 dated case of civil defence first aid haversacks full of supplies. It is complete with contents lists and all supplies. Unfortunately it is missing 3 of the six sacks and has been opened. I was tempted to make an offer on this but it is so far outside of my realm of collecting that I just couldn't do it. What would something like this be worth?

The boots don't look right for as advertised to me. Weren't our guys wearing hob nail ankle boots with puttee's 1914-18.

Yes and no. From my picture book reference, those boots are about the right height but have the wrong lacing type. Canadian dispatch rider boots didn't have speed laces.

The conventional ankle or ammunition boots were the most common style. High boots with a buckle top cuff were issued to 1st Canadian Infantry Division in Italy, to 3rd Canadian Infantry Division for the Normany invasion, and to 2nd 5-6 months later in Holland. For winter there were rubber lace-up galoshes. Dispatch riders had the snappy tall boots mentioned above. Finally, some regiments authorized their officers to have brown ankle boots instead of black.

I could be totally wrong here, but by my little bit of research these were the Canadian made boots that were downgraded to training use in England shortly after first issue to our troops in WWI. The were replaced by issue British boots when they headed over to the mainland.

Still, they are pretty neat. Maybe they should be on display with a MkII Ross, who also stated on the safe side of the channel.

If those boots belonged to an officer, it is quite possible and likely they were used in theatre. They certainly look the part.
Very cool find.

good spot with the 37 patt pistol ammo pouch. If felt lined it would be for the compass. The long web straps look similar to the armoured corps leg straps/harness?
