Found "The Zone" yesterday - briefly

I'm having a spell of finding whatever is the polar opposite of the zone. I've been a fairly consistent 80% shooter . The last few weeks, my scores are just bottoming out. I can see the wheels coming off the wagon but can't seem to stop it.

I figure I'm "in the zone" if I remember to bring the correct gun/ammunition combination !!! I'm hoping to find that elusive zone and finally shoot a clean round of skeet with a 410. I've been close but I always manage to drop at least one (usually more).

My "zone" has been reduced to having a nice beverage after a shoot - especially with the heat wave now in effect... On a more serious note, for me the zone is 80% mental concentration, and 20% physical. The mental part is being able to concentrate and apply yourself fully to the immediate task at hand - something I have difficulty with, especially after a few rounds.
The physical part is two fold - my shooting technique seems to "drift" - often towards some old, die-hard bad habits. This is completely sub-conscious and usually does not get remedied until someone points it out. The second aspect is due to minor injuries (neck sprains, sore back, etc) that alter your technique. Having recently turned 60, this seems to become more prevalent.
BTW - This analysis also applies well to my golf game.

 Trap Shooter ;) (JK)

Yes I am and I eluded to that fact in my post. I really can’t comment on sporting clays as my experiences with it have been less than a dozen times on a course and always at a fun shoot or fundraiser. I don’t mind being called a trap shooter as that really is what I am.

I'm just a trap shooter too. Managed my first 50 straight yesterday. Pretty happy about that. Haven't tried skeet or sporting clays yet, as my small club only has trap.
