I am thinking that might be for an aircraft clock.
They sure made an expensive container for shipping a single clock, albiet a very good, and likely expensive clock.
That clock was likely used extensively on every war time service aircraft, as well as many civilian aircraft.
The dating, 1960, puts it near the end of the wind up clock in aircraft era, I would say.

8-day clocks are still pretty common in CF and NATO aircraft. Digital and electronic clocks might be pretty and fancy, but the truth is, 8-day clocks like this do the job just fine. It tells time, has a chrono and is simple to use....pretty much all you need.
To the right buyer, that can might be worth a few bucks. The RCAF label is a nice touch. Or you could buy the right clock and make it 'complete'.

The can is just one of the standard shipping cans that used to be used in the supply system. We used to get just about anything in these cans, but usually it was electronic items. On the lid of the can is the mil spec number MS24347-. By changing the two numbers on the end of the mil spec number (yours is a 21) will get you a different size can. The milspec number will cross refer over to Nato Stock numbers, which would be the actual number you would order the cans under.

Those eight day clocks were very tightly controlled. Now the clock in your blow jet could have been initialy installed in a B-17 or a P51, as they were overhauled and put back into service.
