My knowledge of these rifles is limited. I know it's a SMLE MKIII made in 1917 in 303 calibre. It was owned by a collector who had it stored for close to 60yrs before he passed away. His wife kept it for a number of years before deciding to get rid of his collection.
The bore is near mint. Removed the wood and cleaned out the dust/lint. Metal underneath is perfect. No cracks in the wood. Parts have the same number with the exception of the magazine. And yes, I put 20 rounds of Winchester 180 grain through it. No issues at all. Actually a real pleasure to shoot.

I found some of the markings on the internet but not all. Can anyone give me some more details on the history of this rifle?

Much appreciated.

No. 1 Mk III* made in 1917 by the Singer Manufacturing Co. in excellent condition. Owned at one time by the Brits and Canada. Nice rifle. The assorted crossed flags are proof marks
Post on the Milsurp forum too. Somebody will know exactly what the crown over the AB is.
This is mostly, but not entirely about No. 4 Rifles. Lot of it applies to No. 1's too. Add the W's. .marstar.ca/html/reflibrary/LeeEnfieldManufacturerMarks.html

okay, how do you get Singer as the manufacturer.
Singer were a parts manufacturer not a rifle factory, it was assembled at Enfield but many of the parts were contracted out as expected by 1917, that or these are in service replacement parts.

Thanks for the info and comments thus far. Nice to hear I did ok. Been looking for one of these for a while, mainly as a wall hanger (small gun room). Bayonets however I hear are fetch a hefty sum. Found two in a pawn shop in North Bay (one Australian the other USA if that makes sense to anyone). $199 each.
