So I managed to get a bucket of wheel weights from a tire shop (about 1/2 was zinc or Fe  ), and I found a fair amount of this stuff.

Its very soft and rubber like.

Anyone know what it is? Im assuming its some kind of weight.

Is there any lead in it? Seems heavy enough.

Its heavy truck strip lead for balancing aluminum wheels. It usually has foam sticky tape on the backside and is very soft so it can be conformed to the curvature of the inside of the wheel.Hope this helps==Dieseldog!

Tx DD,

So should I melt it down? Looks like it would be pretty toxic in the pot.

Im just grumpy buy nature. Not sure what the price of zinc or Fe is but Im pretty sure it will not cover my time and gas to get it to the scrap yard.

If it's not metal, chuck it in the bin and get on with yer life.

Really want to know? Chuck it in the pot and see if it melts or burns on top of the melt. Expect the smell of burnt rubber, if it's not metal. otherwise, that small an amount isn't going to change your melt much, at all, if it happens to contain any lead.

Lots of stuff out there being used for weights besides lead. Pitch it and carry on.

We use to use that stuff to balance wheels at work. It's not lead, it's a foam product made by 3m. I would not be melting it. Just toss it out.
