FOUR AK-style RIFLES of CANADA

OP's still correct.

Valmets are not AK 'style', they're actual AK actions. ;)

I still don't know what I want do do with mine...

in terms of my SKS-KD looking like abomination/"obama-nation", well, I showed all four rifles to my family and all chose that SKS-KD in AK furniture, just because of look and I really like that SKS, so it is a matter of taste really.

and I have to agree, of all four, T81 and VZ58 are those that are the best bet for the buck/ reliability/ accuracy etc and if I were to choose between two to grab and run into the forest, I'd pick T81 as I can still adapt AK mags, it is pretty much mil. grade rifle, unlike VZ58 compared to CZ858. But If am really given a chance to get into my locker I'd just grab simple SKS, with no optics, original untouched wood etc... I'd rely my life on it. If we were to have AKs, I'd grab old school AK47 before that became stamped AKM.

I have owned almost a dozen VZ58's/CZ858's over the years. Most were non restricted and a few were restricted barrel lengths. All were dead nuts reliable - except for one NR version in 5.56mm. The rest were reliable and surprisingly accurate. NEVER had a single part break.

yes, I would imagine most CZ858 and good part of VZ58 are very reliable. I like some things about VZ58: pretty accurate, low weight, the action opens so wide, there is literally no FTE in principle, of course BHO-one of the best part to it. I like the shape of the mag in the bottom of it, but I do not like a concept of a special VZ58 mag by itself, I also do not like the fact that there is no room in the gun to carry cleaning rod/ cleaning kit, I also do not like a strange buttstock angle ( I realize it is for effective open sights use) and a miniscule stock pistol grip handle. But overall, a very pleasant rifle to have, that's why I have it.

and, finally, I don't wanna choose, each one has its own good and bad, I want to have them all, including AK, but we all know with this government we are risking to even loose a real grandfather such as SKS, not talking about AR series etc

No Grandfather crap just leave us law abiding people alone . PERIOD . go after the criminals and stop using us as a door mat. scape goat.

you have to address this not to me, but to the liberoid government or vote wexit, if applicable
and by the way grandfather crap often never fails compared to millennial and post-millennial shiny toys

VZ58 "...Just OK reliability/ durability..."

I don't think I've ever had even a stoppage in any of the 58/858s I've owned. Certainly can't say that about the SKS, as much as I love them. Also I've never seen the gas system seized up on one, like I have with SKSs.

I tried to like the Type 81 - I owned two. I just can't bring myself to care about them.

I guess it really always just comes down to personal preference.

oh I didn't know that. I'd imagine they cost 7K and up

A friend of mine turned down $6K cash for an unfired/NIB 7.62x39 M78. Ideally I'd like to get a 556 version and make it into an R4/Galil clone. Maybe if I win the lottery, but then I'd probably just go somewhere where I could buy a "cheaper" AK, and an FN. I do miss mine.

I have to agree that VZ58 is more reliable than SKS-KD because kd mod is really depending on mags and overall fit/ quality of the specific sks which was modified. my vz had only one ftf likely related to defected round

i dont think i have had more than 15 ftf or fte in my csa vz58s life. currently looking for places to buy a new barrel (ideas?). my only problems with rifle come from aftermarket mag release's.

So does Canadian Firearm law make ANY rifle that is based of the AK illegal?

yes the rcmp even ruled the draganov sniper rifle was a "variant" of the ak47 different caliber and shares no parts.....

Rcmp banned the .22 cal ak looking rifles too as variants also do not share any parts with a real ak series rifle

Keep it Valmet or go Galil (a hybrid would work too) - which is really still a Valmet.... it’s sacrilegious to try the other two ideas you have there, cute but bad ideas......
