Fox Hunting 223 Bullet Selection

Hello!

From the trail cameras on our one property it is very evident by the amount of fox captured on photos as to why our grouse population is slim to none.
Therefore we have decided to spend some time this winter harvesting a few foxes.

Will be using a bolt 223 and would like to have minimal pelt damage.

Shots will be 100 yards and under. From experience what bullet is best for minimal pelt damage?

Also, is there anywhere we can send the pelts in Canada to have made into a hat? Would rather have something useful come out of the pelt rather than hanging on the wall.

They are small soft and tear easy. I’d shoot one with a full metal jacket or a slowed down 40gr Vmax and keep your fingers crossed.
It’s flea central on foxes here. Just a quick drag to the truck and your picking them off your face the rest of the day.

Shoot em with anything you want idgaf

You don’t give an indication to where you are
Pending what province you might need a trappers/fur license if you’re thinking
Of keeping a pelt

Speer #1023 45 grain SP... used it on foxes out of .22 Hornets and .223's with mild loads... doesn't mess up the hides. The Hornady 45 grain SP Hornet bullet is softer and more frangible.

I have had good luck using a "distressed woodpecker" call for long range on foxes and the standard mouse squeaker to get them close or to position them for a shot.

And if that is the case, the fastest, most explosive bullet/load combo, or whatever shoots best in the gun, is fine. And, headshots don't mess up the main part of the hide!

I agree with remyltr, in that if the pelts are not worth saving, whatever kills them is fine!

The OP is still clueless as to what to do with the hides, even IF legal! Which he may not be.
 
Well apparently the OP is trying to find a bullet to minimize pelt damage so the fur can be used for making a hat or something useful. If its illegal to hunt them in his area Im sure he knows this. Reading comprehension seems to be a recurring problem for some. Great advice from Hoytcanon, They are a very soft animal and easy to dispatch. In some provinces fur bearing animals cant be just shot and disposed of. But that requires effort!!
 
I had great success with a 40 gr TMJ from a 22 mag. Nearly always dropped them in their tracks with minimal damage. Often couldn't find entrance and exit wounds until skinned.
Shot quite a few with trap load from a 12ga while hunting over beagles back in the day.
If using a 223 I'd look for a harder bullet or reduced load
