I have a Spitfire and although the sounds are realistic I feel for the price I could have done better. Looking through the Cabelas catalogue for $20 more than Foxpro's starter(Spitfire) I could have gotten a Johnny Stewart Preymaster with as many features as the high end Foxpro at almost 1/3 the price and they sound just as good. I had the chance to try one last time I was in Bass Pro and it sounded as good as the Foxpro. It also offered free downloads for other sounds. With the Foxpro you pay for the majority of dowloads that are not in your unit by default. Just my .02 worth.

but I find myself leaving it at home more and more and just taking a few hands calls. Rabbit squealer and turkey box call. Both work just as good, I don't know why, but I called more coyotes in with the handcall over the foxpro, about 1 coyote for every 3 stands.


I find you can put in more emotion to the calls and can change it up a lot better with the hand calls over the electronic. I keep the foxpro for crow hunting now.

If you are calling 1 coyote in for every 3 stands on a consistent basis, then you Sir certainly are the Pied Piper of coyotes!

Last year was a lucky year for me, I made about 35 stands from Jan-March and I shot 9 coyotes and missed 3. I never called the same spot more than twice, had prefect wind everytime and LOTS of coyotes around. Hope to break that record this year.

The handcall i use is a Johnny Stewart PC-3 closed reed rabbit squealer.

They work for wolves as well.Shot this one at 30 yards after it ran past me a 22 yards.The foxpro was about 30 yards infront of it before it stopped giving me a chance to figure out what just ran past me.I was a little surprised.

Nice animal. Quite a difference between that and the dark skraggy variety we have here on the island. With the intent of trying for the ones here, a while ago I picked up an Foxpro FX5 and a total of 100 different calls. A quick photo of my Pred and Varmint set-up.

Admittedly, I haven't used it for my 'plan' of thinning out some of the local Wolf 'gene pool', yet but hope to do so before too long. At least some of the calls must be fairly realistic because of the reaction to calls by my dog and the neighbours. Drives them nuts.

In addition to the call, I also picked up a Jack In the Box decoy, longer wires and an Owl decoy with moveable head, for a little practice on Crows. Works like a hot damm, especially with a light breeze blowing and a small piece of black plastic garbage bag under the Owl. Trying to set up up a local logging road for Wolves in the spring.
