FP-45 Liberator (Warning to low speed internet users)

If I come across another that is reasonably priced, I might consider making it either a 9mm or maybe even a 22. The 9mm could be left with it's rifling. For the 22, it might be necessary to move the firing pin hole to the side a bit. Then again, I could keep an eye out for a pair of similar tin grips from something else and make a Liberator lookalike.

Ya never know, an unmodified one might cause th owner to go berserk and spray innocent people in a schoolyard, one SLOOOW shot at a time!

The only reason they were made was to get you a better gun from a german who no longer needed it.

I have a 12(6) liberator in great condition. My cost was $800 plus gst/pst, shipping and $25 registration fee that was imposed at that time and I will sell it for cost.

Reason for acquiring it was for target shooting and I would like to add it has not yet been fired. Waiting for that elusive liberator competition match to attend..

LOL.

Well Done SC.

My suggestion for a .22 barrel would be to set up the with an offset in the lathe, and turn it so that the .22 bore is not actually in the center of the barrel.

If you had a big enough diameter blank or stub, you could offset the bore enough that you could use the original striker.

Just an idea...

Apparently the Liberator's have a reputation for 'biting' when fired with factory 230 gr ball. ;)

I know that if a guy has big hands, the hammer likes to nip the webbing between the thumb and forefinger.

I'm curious where one gets a Liberator in any case.

They are out there. As I mentioned in my first post of this thread, there were 78 registered in the database that I could find. There are also likely more, still on the old green slips. Just posting this thread has lead to an offer of another. Keep an eye at the gunshows. Also, have a 12.6 guy ready to buy it for you when you see one. And there is even the one listed about 4 responses up.

I know someone local here who has one of 'em. The 'real deal' original. Maybe if I ask him nicely he will let me fire it once with a round of 230 gr FMJ. Just to see if it really bite....

How does the action work? Is it a locked single shot? Or does the round eject? What would bite?

Locked single shot. Poke the empty out with a stick. Not great for IDPA.
It was designed for REALLY close work as in "muzzle touching". There was no rifling (not needed); best way was to put the barrel to the head of the unsuspecting opponent and fire, then grab whatever firearms your enemy held and scamper the hell out of that place.
Must have taken real balls...
PP.

Good job, I like it. At first I thought you just dewatted it, but the
i like the job you did extending the barrel. Saves it from the scrap heap.

I just had a look on gunbroker.com in the US. There are a couple on there now, with buy it now prices around $4K. On completed auctions, it shows that bidders were going into the $2500 to 3500 range, and not meeting the reserve prices. There is one on there that is very pitted, the seller still wants some fair coin for it.
