Franchi and Browning friction ring compatibility

Hello all,

I'm in the process of restoring a 1969 Franchi 48 AM- Magnum. It's basically a 48 AL with a steel receiver instead of aluminum and,
as some of you may well know, getting your hands on a set of Franchi friction rings can be a bit of a pain- so I was wondering: are the friction rings from the similar, almost identical, long recoil action found in the Browming Auto 5 and it's derivatives (Remington model 11 and Savage 720) compatible that found in the Franchi AL 48?

Also, does anyone know, with absolute certainty, what classification is associated to said friction rings as far as American Export laws are concerned?

Thanks,

Billy Z.

I had a Franchi semi as a youngster and dad had his A-5.
Never ever thought of this test.
I would bet Western Gun Parts would be able to tell you?

Anybody have an original factory Franchi 48 AL owner's manual? The reason I ask is that I contacted Western Gun Parts and they do have some Franchi parts on hand - but- there's no way for me to identify the parts I need since their filing system uses the original factory part identification system which looks like two digits, dash, three digits ex: 12-148 and the only manual I could find off of Steve's pages doesn't use the same system.

I'd much rather not have to bring anything over the border because of labyrinthine US export laws have me stumped in regards are restricted and which aren't.

Thanks again kamlooky- but no; the gentleman at Western Gun Parts was very specific in that he could only work with original factory part numbers and that the parts numbers from the owner's manual from Steve's Pages don't work for him.

Anybody have any experience with Western Gun Parts? What can I do on my end to help him them identify the parts I need should I be unable to obtain the parts numbers they use and recognize? I'm under the impression that he doesn't want to waste his time on what could amount to be a 10$ sale- and I don't blame him but the fact of the matter is that I'm in the market for barrel(s) recoils springs and friction rings.

I do think they wish to sell you the proper original replacement parts.
Returns are a waste of time to both you and them.
Anything safety related, they will only ship to a qualified gunsmith.
I guess things in the past didn't work out too well from what I'm to
understand.
You need to give them a bit of credit regarding selling firearm items to
the general public.
I think you can blame that chap (s) Buhbhuh for sour taste buds.
Just wondering if you can't get these directly from Franchi?

Nope-called Benelli USA direct and they no longer carry any parts for the old Franchis- they told me to give Carlson's a call. I think I'm gonna stop by my gunsmith's and see if he doesn't have the inventory list I need...
