anyone held and shot the franchi horizon??

whats the weight of a 308 ?

says about 3kg ?

seems to be good things said about them?

we can get one for a good price basically new >50 rounds....

felt a heap of guns today an she liked a few but some are getting toward 2k.....
tikka for example... held the gen 2, liked it but not loved it, Howa 1500 was too heavy scoped.....

curious as to the weights of these Franchis....... will be putting a burris ff2 or droptine or maybe even just a prevail 3-9x40 on it which are about 400grams.

I looked at a few at my LGS. Felt good in the hands but the plastic stock was contacting the left side of the barrel on both of the ones I looked at. Had to pass. been using a franchi semi auto shotgun for going on 7 or 8 year and love it. wish they had of paid closer attention to the fit on the rifles.

yeah thanks mate-
wasnt "heavy" ?

interesting both had left side contact, i wonder if from transport they were on their side etc?

im buying second hand but as new, so im going to have to gamble on that factor! im open to sanding it down an opening up the channel a bit if need be i guess!

it seems like its pretty Plastic, much like the ruger american / axis / typical budget rifle poly stocks?

apart from that it seems to fit our bill at the moment-

the owner said its 2.95kg with the weaver bases , so not a m77 ruger heavyweight but not a ultralight :) i think it will be a good balance to absorb some recoil (even though we will download) an be able to carry around for half day hunts etc.

with a burris ff2 it' bring it up just under 3.5kg i rekon - should be fine

It didn't feel heavy. bolt felt smooth. the stock issue might have been caused by shipping or maybe carelessness when bolted into the stock. i'm not sure what kind of bedding system they use. I have had to sand the plastic stock on a rem 783 HB before. its not really a big deal or all that time consuming. you should do a review on the rifle when you get it.

We will see the Rifle Friday -- My Partner an i have been goin thru all the Yoiutube reviews,,, really keen on it actually.

Seen photos of the forend, its ALL floating an looking good. not a mark on it etc.
im excited for her- She is so eexcited!!

we are downloading some Hot cor 150grainers first up

will do a review an vide on setting it up

have recieved the rifle an got it home.
we put on a burris fullfield 2 i had around, 3-9x40mm in QD rings for now..rifle came with bases .

So far without firing - i dont hate it!
cant really fault it at the moment an is as expected- stock actually feels good with the grip and hold points / forend etc.

its light enough , not a heavy rifle but not ultra light-

got a couple of precision hunter eldx 178 and a box of winchester super x 180gr with it, so im going to test those out before we get into reloading a 150gr for my partner !

the recoil pad claims some 50% reduction.... doesnt feel that soft at all ... id have thought fairly hard..

trigger is or appears to be light an breaks crisp.. feels a bit weird being kind of rounded.

magazine release a little weird but once used to it, be fine. all positive clicks an releases.

Concerns- Drop at heel. with weaver style Bases and QD rings the scope sits up a little... not 100% low an comfy.
for the girl , may need to get a lower set of direct rings? talley would lower it enough i believe with 40mm tube!?

will try follow the journey on video an give a review

Shot Sub MOA at 100 with some remaining 178 ELDX prec hunter factory ammo the guy gave us.
i let one slide low but the other 4 were .800 or so.

wrapped with that , now on to reloading for her

Trigger mech on these looks identical to Sabatti Rover, easy to adjust if needed.
right?
ive noticed there is a few similiarities between a few different 'budget' style rifles all in this one outfit...

trigger feels good for sure, we wont touch it - it does have a weird feel to it being Rounded, ive always seemed to have had flat triggers, have not decided if i rate it or hate it yet ha ha! works well though no doubt.

gifted some 130gr HP federal rounds that she can get accustomed to the rifle with in the mean time, then sort out some reloaded rounds for it

Update on this.

So far, She is loving the Franchi.
we've shot half of the 130gr for practise an began reloading an developing those reduced loads with Varget- an the 150gr Hot cor.
have just finished with that now, settling on 38gr at 2.800 an yet to determine chrono speeds but accuracy is sub moa actually off shooting sticks, prone and standing against the bonnet with rifle in the shooting sticks, resting over bonnet etc... repeatable too we finally confirmed an are going to load up 20 or 30 rounds for her to do some shooting at 200meters - about her max for hunting.

rifles been performing as expected - there may be a slight creep or a bit of a 2 stage feel on occaison but neither have actually minded - breaks good an firm .

the old burris is a eye sore she rekons , so a new one is in order down the track to make it "look pretty an black" ... :)

the over all weight is good- its not ultra light but it is not heavy at all, we are happy with that.

the barrel could do with a lop of 2-3-4 inches in my opinion but wont be happening.

thanks for all the info , franchi is definatly a good base rifle for huntin deer!
