I was at the gunshop today and was looking at some shotguns. Saw a Franchi that the attendant was handling and I asked..."Is that a new Franchi?" (frankee)

To which he responded,..yes it's new, and it's Franchy..and kinda looked at me like was idiot. So I mentioned that I owned one and my cousin was buying one for himself.

He asked which one?...

to which I replied...

a 720 Raptor..

Never heard of that before...I don't think it's a Franchy.

I said, oh yeah, for sure it is...I have the same gun.

So he calls out to another attendant and asks has he heard of a 720 Raptor?

That guy says no. He looks at me says, "who makes it?"

I say,..."Frankee"...

he said, you mean Franchy and laughed at me.

So I'm a bit annoyed, but who cares. They gone on to say about their distributorship for Benelli and Franchi and Beretta and so on, and that they would know if there was such a shotgun, unless it just came out. "Like this week" to quote them.

Well ya won't believe what happened next...

I decided I won't argue or be a ####,...:eek: and just smiled and kept looking around. Then I saw a sako that interested me and asked could I see it...

well low and behold..."you mean the sayko?"



Can someone please tell me the pronouciations I m using are wrong or right?

I have always called Franchi (Frankee..like Fronkee) and Sako (sack o)
 
That's also how Italians and Finnish are calling them.... Just bring your shotgun to them and ask for an authentification.....
 
It is spelt Franchi, but I always say it Fronkie. I don't know or care if it is wright or wrong, thats how I say it, and I will never correct someone if they say it different 'cause I don't know the correct way.

And yes, I own two Franchi shotguns!
 
you know, there IS a pronounciation guide RIGHT in your COMPUTER- from ITALY NO LESS- type in pronounciation, italian and franchi, and the program comes up- and this guy named paulo FRANCHI comes up-and he says it's FRANKEE-now, somehow, i would trust this guy to PRONOUNCE HIS OWN NAME PROPERLY, wouldn't you?
 
"...it's Franchy..." As in Franchee? I don't think I'd worry about how its pronounced. If you're standing there with a fistful of Robert Bordens, neither will the shop clerks.
 
I usually pronounce it Seiko as in the watch. I often get told it is saw ko. To which I reply, Sack O? After that, if I get any snot, I usually tell the young fella that I have 5 and ask him how many he owns and who told him sawko is correct?

As far as Frank eh? I would never admit to owning one let alone care about how it is pronounced.

Wow!!

Really have to asky why? That's a pretty strong statement..
 
I agree with Covey, the few that i have seen used much have given the owner trouble, so I'd steer clear of them. I knew someone that bought a Trap Combo of their's and it was nothing but trouble, and it was/is prolly one of their more expensive guns.

I guess you have to call em as you find em..

My Franchi was and is as good as most any other gas fed semi auto I have owned.
Most of those shotguns have included 1100's, 1187's, SX2, XL900, A 391, Extrema, and the list goes on with numerous more that all come in under $2000...

I have never had an issue with it...and dropped scores of birds and a few clays with it...

I'd recommend one to anyone, and this week I did.

don't get your shorts in a knot! I just forgot to insert a winky face or a popcorn icon. Just the way you got all sensative about the tom A to or tu mah to type pronunciation, I knew you were a Frankee type. There are only two types. Those who like Franchi and everyone else.

oh I could care less how anyone else pronounces it, ...
as long as I ptonounce correctly, ...;)

and of course, I do :)

I remember those trap combos from the late 70s. My vote for the POS of the century. Frankly I think Franchi has always been a knock off of something better.
 
That store clerk sounds he would be awesome to go on a long roadtrip with, or to use as a wingman to wheel in hot chicks.

Anyways, you are right. They answer the phones at Franchi by saying Fron-key.

FWIW, "Sock o" is correct. My source is the 1986 Shooters Bible (p.21). Not that it matters as most folks will pronounce it the way they think is it and claim they are correct because "they say it is so". Ignorance is bliss!
