Went through the Crow's Nest Pass area again this last weekend. Here is a couple of pics of the memorial that has been erected along Hwy 3 near Frank, Alta.

Finally stopped long enough to take the pics.

They're Maxim MG 08's actually.

I don't know if there is a Legion or not, I imagine there is one somewhere in the Pass. The Maxims only went up in the last year. The gun, I don't know what it is, has been there awhile.

Any big bore guys help us with the ID.

I believe the howitzer is a 10,5 cm LIGHT FIELD HOWITZER MODEL 98/09. The standard equipment in 1914.

I think that's normal. It looks just like that in my books.

After WW1 hundreds of Maxims and field pieces were brought back to Canada as war trophies to be displayed in cities and towns across the country.
They have gradually disappeared due to changing times, vandalism, theft and of course exposure to the elements. It's good to see some put back on display for their original purpose.
