Good day to all from the blazing Okanagan.

I sold this rifle years ago to a friend and finally got it back to cover part of a debt.
I'm just curious if anyone has any info about these rifles as it took me a bit to figure out what it was but thanks to the Mauser page on facebook got some of the help I needed.

It has only a serial number on the barrel, and markings are "Favorit Compact" and caliber 8x68S. It does have an awesome set of bases/rings.
I finally found the stamp wfw under the front base to identify as Frankonia.

I know it belong to another friend of mine who has moved since I originally got it and his dad purchased it either in Germany or where they resided in Belgium way back then. It's so similar to every other gun made with Mauser actions.

Any info will be appreciated...Thanks for reading.

Frankonia is in Germany what Cabelas is here in Canada.

Maybe at one time they sold rifles under their own branding ...

The lack of other markings on the rifle would indicate something like this.

Thank you, yes I found that, they do have nice rifle but boy are they pricey.
This complicates things a bit as I'm still unsure of the maker lol.

Found this thread .... maybe this helps a bit ....

And after a another one or two searches .... it seems that Frankonia is still selling this line of guns and under the name "Forest Favorit".

( you have to remove the space in Forest and after https: )

Translated with Google:

"The name "Forest Favorit" stands for bolt action rifles with a selected original 98 system, which became famous decades ago for their use in big game hunting in Africa. At that time, 30 Favorit rifles in caliber .458 were delivered to the gamekeeper school in Mweka / Tanzania, which have been doing their loyal service there ever since. The Forest Favorit bolt action rifles are available in different designs for high hide, driven hunt, hunting and safari. What they all have in common is absolute reliability under all conditions: The myth “98” lives on at Frankonia! "

Exactly...you sometimes see their old mail order catalogues for sale at gun shows (remember them?) Some years ago Frankonia stopped doing mail order service to North America. They sold/sell all grades of firearms, from very expensive highest-grade fully-engraved drillings through to their own line of yeoman hunting rifles made with rebarreled military surplus Mauser-98 receivers. Their old catalogues are fun to flip through.

I watch a video on how they install them in Europe; they put a glue first before putting the bases on. I tried early on removing them so I could look for markings, not able at all.

Sharp tap with a nylon or nonmarking hammer at 90 degrees and the will pop off. A number of euro makers do similar.

Mild, only a bit too hot to touch, heat on the bases will soften the adhesive enough that they can sometimes be removed with a gloved hand. If not, a light tap or two with a soft mallet or piece of wood will do the trick.

Good looking and reliable rifle you have there.

A little heat will help them let go. I always put a drop of removable lock-tite under bases and on the screws as well as on the claws and screws of the rings, and a drop in the ring itself. No more creep issues.

Their new Rifles look about identical to Zastava; including the stock. The high finish looks like Zastava as well.

sights are different, and this one has a birch rather than walnut stock.
