Why is it that every time I touch my new Nork M-14 another piece of wood chips off or dents? I'm just trying to put the trigger assembly back in after cleaning and a whole strip of cheap-s**t wood has just come off. SOB!

I think you have just answered your own question...it's cheap. No matter, I have a few Chinese toys and it is worth a few bucks to stick a synthetic or something else on there. For what they are they generally shoot OK.

pffft shoot ok..

I get great groups with my m14..

holding the zero is a different story. I'm thinking its the mount and I will probably upgrade to a better mount from the marstar one when my finanices take a turn for the better!

Buy a synthetic stock..

if you like the look of the wood ones I have a beautiful wooden usgi stock w/ markings.

if your interested pm me

Well, for the price you pay for a Norinco, would you rather mediocre/cheap everything or a very good receiver/action and cheap/crap everything else so that you can upgrade and tune to your liking afterwards?

Well, I wouldn't have paid more than Marstar prices for one...more of a handgun person myself, and reloading for rifle has been a pain in the butt so far. I don't collect safe queens and I don't mind the occasional "ding" - but this is ridiculous - I swear I could peel off the whole stock with a fingernail. Am now looking at the $65 synthetic stocks from Districorp.

When I got my first M305, I put my fingernail into the stock. Well, that's got to go! Now I have a few stocks and experiment on them. The guns I shoot only have F.G. stocks on them. Much better.

If you have one of the cheap aluminum scope mounts, chances are that the raised ridge on both sides of the main side screw do not line up well. Take it off and see if the front of the mount ridge is indented from trying to fit into the receiver. I took out the side screw and filed the hole a bit until both ridges fit perfectly into the receiver. I also had to shim the contact point where it sits on the stripper guide mount. All it took was a bit of my time and now I have no problems with the scope holding zero.

The ONE thing that HAS to go on the Chinese M14 is the stock!!! Beyond that, do what you want...

Just to put your mind at ease, when you get your replacement stock, USGI most likely... Take a saw to the chinese one and you will INSTANTLY see just how sh1tty a piece of wood they really used to dress that rifle with!!!

Cheers

Actually, I've seen some wonder restoration projects on the ChuWood & was quite impressed...Mine is still on my Norc M14 & luv it!!

ya...i stripped mine in the dishwashed and it oiled out quite nicely...but again, it sits beside my rifle. my springfield crinckle finish stock sits with it.
